XM Radio

I've had my Sky since June. The 3 months of XM radio expired. It was ok but I would rather listen to the local FM stations and CDs rather than pay for XM. I got several phone calls asking me to renew my service before I would have to pay a reactivation fee. I don't want it. Quit calling, take me off your list. After about 4 calls, they quit calling. Today I got a card in the mail for "12 MONTHS OF XM RADIO - ONLY $77 A 50% SAVINGS". And they will waive the $14.99 reactivaton fee. For $6.41666.... a month, I called and renewed it for one year. Just thought I would let you guys know that if you hold out for about a month you can get a better deal.

Sounds like when I cancelled my Tivo service that was $12 a month... the guy immediately said "hate to see you leave. How about $6 a month?" No "lemme see if I can get you a deal" or "I have to talk to my supervisor" or anything, just offered immediately. Geez, if I'd known they offer that so willingly, I would have cancelled months prior!

I think I read somewhere on here months ago about a similar experience. XM wants/needs the subscriber base so they really, really want to keep you. Not a bad deal except I really don't like the XM radio stations too much (I'm a Sirius subscriber in my other vehicle).

Did you sign a contract or anything or are you month-to-month? You can always call and tell them you don't want to continue and get the "c'mon back" deal if you don't have a contract!

I also have sirius in my other vehicle and I have to say it's the better of the two. I'm just happy I can play MP3's and plug in my IPOD so my XM may just... expire. If I liked it as much as sirius, I'd consider renewing.

Just wondering when GM is going to get smart and start giving owners the option of Sirius. Maybe they have a contract with XM....not sure....but the way Sirius is adding subscribers its only a matter of time.

Thanks for the info about the discount, I wonder how low they would have gone for me since I already had 2 other accounts with the multiple radio discount.

Yeah you can see threads about people getting converters/modulator set ups to add Sirius. I don't think that GM will break its strong tie to XM just yet though. It seems almost as strong as the bond with OnStar. When you refer to a "matter of time" perhaps we should look to the day that the two services just merge. With HD Radio ramping up and XM and Sirius dumping so much in to exclusive contracts for sports and celebrities -- I don't see there being a point to having two services in some years when there is no more new subscribers.

Thank you! Glad I read this forum, was able to get the XM at the lower price had to call a few times to get a different operator (they kept asking for the special promotion code my dealer never gave me one but for those of you that are interested ask your dealer BEFORE you take baby home). The code ZWINBACK didnt work FYI. Thanks again!

Has anyone else gotten the 50% off offer?

My trial just ran out (my car is 3 months old!)..
and I am tempted to just wait it out a bit and see what happens....

XM and Sirius just announced a merger and basically after its all said and done you will be able to get all channels from both. Thats if the govt allows it. The price will prob go up as well. Maybe then I can take that ugly Sirius antennae off my trunk

Dear XM Radio Subscriber:

We want to share with you some exciting news: Yesterday, in Washington DC, we announced XM Radio will be merging with Sirius Satellite Radio to form the premier digital audio service.

The merger will create a satellite radio company that will provide consumers across the country with more and better premium radio programming. The combined company will be able to compete better in what has become a very complex and dynamic entertainment market.

Where today our exclusive contracts mean you had to choose between baseball and football or Oprah and Martha Stewart, the new company will seek to ensure that in the future, you will be able to access both companies' programming. And, once we are fully integrated, those of you who have factory-installed satellite radio will no longer be limited to the programming provided by the exclusive satellite radio service chosen by their car manufacturer.

This merger should be completed in late 2007 or early in 2008. Throughout the year, we will provide updates on how the merger is progressing and information will be available at our website, www.xmradio.com.

Between today and the merger date, as well as during the period immediately after the merger date, all of your services will remain the same. The channel lineup, the customer service number, the great music technology, and the XM Radio web site will all remain unchanged and there will be no disruption to service. But, if you have questions, information will be available and maintained on our website, and you can contact our Listener Care team at 800-XMRADIO, with questions and concerns.

XM Radio continues to be committed to providing you the highest quality audio entertainment and customer service available today. After the merger, our new company will be able to offer you the most exciting listening experience in radio.

Sincerely,

Hugh Panero
CEO, XM Satellite Radio
