Are You Missing This Set OF Brackets?? Causing Hood/Well Rub??

Ok, so on the meet we had in NJ this weekend Me and Skycruzr noticed a big difference in our Redlines. His was produced 7/06 and mine 1/07. He has a set of brackets behind the front bumper, under the headlights, above the place where you change the directional bulbs.

It appears to me that this bracket is making the front end more rigid. And to add to the mystery and intrique it appears that all the people who are having problems with the wheel well plastic rubbing away the paint under the hood, DO NOT HAVE THIS BAR.

I am making this a poll to see what the concensus is. I have forwarded these pictures to my dealers service manager and he is going to put a call in to GM to check into this "Missing" bar issue.

Now my dealer to fix the rubbing of the wheel well under the hood, he loosened the well and held it down as far as possible while tightening it back down. It solved the problem , at least for now, but this bar seems to hold the well in a tighter position.

Was this bar left out due to another issue, and if so why haven't they recalled the older cars to have them removed???

Did they run out of this part and not want to hold up production?? Did someone falsly decide it was not needed. There is a story here and I am not going to quite until I know the missing chapters. Are there any factory people that can find out for us??

HELPPPPP!!!!

I will keep you all posted!!

The first 2 pics are SKYCRUZR's Redline WITH the brackets.
The 3 pics to the right are my Redline WITHOUT the brackets.

The funny thing is in the middle pic you can see someone took the time to even put a clip over the hole the bracket goes on. WHERE"S MY BRACKETS?!?!?!

Well, it appears that on my new 2008 RL, I do not have this bracket either.

However, I still don't understand what rubbing you are talking about, so I don't know wether I have this issue or not.

Can you please give a better explantion of this problem ?

Right above the crest of the wheel well, INSIDE the engine compartment, the plastic whell is rubbing on the hood/fender.

See orange area in pics.

ok, so I am looking at the right place, but shouldn't those two places rub ?

I would think they would have to so that they can form a seal. What problem does this rubbing cause ?

OK, that is why I posted this, my missing brackets may not be causing that rubbing issue, but why are mine missing??

It appears they may be 2 issues. Lets see what others say.

No, no metal should ever rub anything but rubber seals. It is removing the paint from under the hood and it will eventually rust if I do not get it resprayed!

ahh, ok, if it is removing paint that's bad.

It does not look like mine is doing that, but it's so new that it's probably too early to tell yet.

rubbing

Ok I have a Q does the plastic well go all the way down to the bottom of the lip on the metal or is it sitting on the inside because mine is on the inside and there is a gap 1/8 or so so it is not rubbing and I too do not have the braces

No Brackets, No Rubbing.
I did notice that I have the clear plastic film (similar to clear bras and what is on the trunk under the wings) on the hood in the arch where the rubbing is reported. Anyone else have the film there?

I have a RedLine built in May 2007, it has the clear mylar but not the brackets. Sure would have liked two horns. One crappy sounding horn doesn't get anybody's attention!

Looking at the pictures, it looks like they changed the type of brackets. I see the large ones on the left pictures, and see a small round one on your car. The round ones do not show on SKYCRUZR's. Am I seeing this correctly?

At the factory tour they gave us the film to install, and said that they were now installing it there.

No, Actually SKycruzr has both. You just cannot see them below the larger set on top.

That's so F'ed up that they do not do an immediate mailing to all owners. It would cost them pennies. Now the dealer has to respray the underside of the hood. STUPID, penny wise, pound foolish!!

I looked again just now, and I do have the mylar strips. So hopefully that means I won't have any rubbing issue.

It still leaves the question as to why the brackets were changed.

Can you post a picture of what the clear plastic film looks like (in it's place)? I got the two stickers at the factory tour, but don't know where they go. TIA!
