News Should GM make the Opel GT parts Solstice/Sky parts?

This is a multi-selection poll so vote for all the items you want.

Was made more aware of some items at Mecca II so I thought I'd bring this forward to all of you. As some of you may be aware GM decided to make the Opel GT the sportiest of all the Kappa variants. So lets vote and let GM know what we think should be done for us, the original Kappa owners. You can buy them online from various sources, but you're still buying Opel GT parts, and GM does not offer them to us as accessories.

Here's a quick list of the items that differ between an Opel GT and us
  • Shorty Antenna
  • Performance brake pads
  • True Summer only tires

Shorty Antenna
  • This antenna is about 1/2 the size of the stock one.

    GM PART # 25805645
    GM LIST: $21.52
    Online PRICE: $11.19

Performance brake pads
  • These are the Cobalt SS front and the SAAB 9-3 rear pads we've talked about several times before. Probably on par with HPS pads.
    GM PART # 22705327 Front
    GM LIST: $139.00
    Online PRICE: $72.28

    GM PART # 93183140 Rear
    GM LIST: $92.10
    Online PRICE: $54.60

Summer Only tires
  • Bridgestone RE050A TRUE Summer only tires. If you look at the tread pattern on the RE050A on an Opel GT though you'll notice it doesn't look exactly like the tread on the RE050A we can buy here. They had some at the plant and they have fewer outside ridges in them then normal RE050A tires have and I bet their UTQG was different also. I thought I saw a AA A instead of the A A I expected to see. I'll let the industrious users figure that one out.

Optional Options

I prefer that everything be basically optional, by that I mean it should offered at a reasonable cost as what I would call an upgrade. Then either do it or not. In away it doesn't really matter, if they can do it, we can do it. The tire issue is interesting however, are they perhaps better rated, a completely different tire and can they be purchased in the USA?

Optional as in from the factory optional or as in dealer installed optional?

The Opel GT tire is FAR superior to the RS-A or GS-2 offered here. It's a true Summer only tire with excellent dry and wet traction. It is a tire than can be purchased here too.

Exactly, when you order your Sky, they would ask if you want these "upgrades" from the factory, just like when they ask if you want an auto or manual trany, or the different colors, all basically are options, or the 6-CD or single-CD etc. Then the FACTORY builds it to your requirements. That would be ideal IMHO.. Some will spend the extra scratch, others will take it "stock" if you will..

As for the tires I totally agree, many threads in the forum as you know where members actually replaced the factory tires with the Bridgestone RE050A, actually when ready it is one of the tires I will consider to replace my RSA's. In my case in Florida, (and yours as you know) it must have high ratings for water.., but yet high performance..

the stock antena is way too big for the car and doesnt look good as for brakes the RL should have better brakes than the n/a and should be optional for the n/a. tires... i prefer summer but it should be optional as well since it depends on were your like and what you do with your car

I would rather go with the summer only performance tires because that antenna is still larger than I would like on Missy.

They should just remove the antenna in the first place.. hide it behind rear view mirror or on singular "shark fin" on the trunk.
