burnt smell? [clutch]

Hi,

I was revving my car high the other day, while my foot is pressed on the clutch.

I noticed a burnt smell afterwards.

Is that the clutch overheating? I'm surprised to smell that since I only did it for less than 5 seconds.

That only happens on mine when I let the clutch out Real Quick (Burnning Rubber)

Yeah, sometimes when pulling up my driveway or other inclines from a stop, I'll wind it out a little too much and smell that burny, clutchy smell. It's nothing that bad. Just like the brakes, slam on them really hard and you'll get a good smell from that too. You just may have to replace your clutch that much sooner!

The stock clutch seems a bit weak. You can smoke it easily.

From your description you may have a bad pressure plate might want to get it checked out by the dealer.

You smell burn it is the clutch try not to run too low of gears and bog it down. Also don't down shift instead use the brakes saves gas and clutch.

I am going to invest in a heavy duty clutch here soon.

I get it sometimes when in reverse but mostly on steep inclines.
The darn thing is, it's a hydraulic clutch shouldn't really do this unless you drop it in at high RPM's.

Admit it now, you're just getting too old to bother.

LOL! I almost want an auto now. Did not think they were faster.

I am sure a few upgrades will solve that problem.

Interesting article, (several years old however)
I don't know if this still pertains to the Kappa's clutch but needless to say it's possible cause might be due to the vehicle incline angle if the reservoir is low? - didn't much give it a thought, I'll have to check it out?

"Some manufacturers, notably Saturn, do not service any individual component of the clutch hydraulic system. The master cylinder, slave cylinder and tubing are sold as an assembly. It even comes filled with fluid and bled of air. If nothing else, this policy would ensure that you fix the hydraulic system no matter what the problem."

Take it to the dealer. If they can't adjust it, they should replace it.

A clutch works by friction. Friction produces heat. If you "ease in" a clutch you get a bit friction as the two plates rub against each other, then they bite. Extend that friction time and you get the surface of the clutch burning away (think about driving along with your foot lightly on the brakes - same thing.) The clutch is designed to do that (just like brake pads are designed to produce friction on the rotors.)

So, if you go to your dealer and say "I have found that if I let the clutch slip for a long period of time that it will get really stinky" he is most likely to reply, "Yep. It will. Don't do that."

It comes with the territory.

in my case i feel rough grabbing even if the clutch pedal is in all the way. very rarely i'll get a little jolt in the car.

Mine does that if I rev to the point where the turbo kicks in. I surmise that you're smelling the after effects. The first time I actually got out of the Sky, opened the hood and started sniffing around, then I noticed the trend.
