Changes for 2009?

Has anyone read or heard what changes are expected for the 2009 Sky? Specifically for the Red Line edition?

Thanks!

Some LED tail lights would not be bad.

Navagation system would be awesome (and not the Onstar Navi we have now)

More power and longer gears. Maybe just a 6 speed to replace the 5 speed.

As soon as I get going the fun stops.

I'd have at least one accident a day!

Actually, I'd like to see some more pockets or nooks to put stuff. Right now most of my stuff goes in the speedometer hole.

I don't have any inside information, but Solstices/SKYs are basically handbuilt on a low production line with tailored tooling. If I remember correctly (source is the Solstice Book), I believe the major tooling is designed for about five years at the low production duty cycle. Any major changes will be reflected in the new tooling, which probably won't be online until 2011 or so. Of course, if the production runs higher than projected, we could see a re-tool sooner.

Keep in mind that it can take several years from concept to tool, so I would not be surprised if major changes are in the works GM already has the concepts laid out but under wraps. Also keep in mind GM is hurting financially, so whatever they do will have to make sense financially.

That timing also matches the Delaware plant closing and the proposed movement of Kappa production to Bowling Green...

That is understandable about re-tooling of the plant. Especially with the current state of GM.

What I would like to see though is the brake issue being resolved. That is one of the reasons I am holding out for an '09. The other is to see if Saturn/GM will come out with a tune as well. From what I've read, it sounds like a tune not only increases HP, but also fuel economy.

With the high prices of gas and the pressure to make cars more fuel efficient, one would think that Saturn/GM would want to provide a tune.

Am dreaming of Sky RL ownership within the next year, and have read many forums. I'm concerned about brake issues, but come from the old era when cars had NO power brakes and you had to push like h--ll to emergency stop. Maybe we're a bit spoiled with powers, but turbo has no impact on start-up with whether brakes work or not, so am puzzled by GM's responses. Has to be the vaccuum valve. And at this point in my life (mortgage paid off, kids gone) I don't care any more about fuel prices. It's time for me to have some fun. Looking forward to the rubber-necking to see my new RL. And my I4 5-speed Cobalt is only averaging 27. The Sky averaging 23-26 is a much more stylish ride, and far more fun.

I'm kinda thinking the same thing. Window switches that don't require me to get my arm surgically shortened would seem pretty reasonable also. There are some quirks that can be written off as "that's just the type of car it is", but cutting corners on the brakes, and switches that can't be reached are things that are hard to explain away.

I don't know why they didn't put them on the center console where thry used to put all the window switches in Saturns that at least was a convienent location.
I'd like to see either more gauges or have the dic improved to show battery voltage, oil pressure, etc call me old fashioned but I don't trust the car to tell me when somethings going wrong because by that time it's usually too late
Also a data interface bluetooth, wlan something. The radio and onstar doesn't need to be so proprietary.Dump the CD player and install a hard disk.

I don't know what's coming for 2009, but I'm hoping Saturn and GM work on making evolutionary improvements to the Sky and Solstice. What am I talking about? Stuff like tweaking elements of the car to make it handle and feel even better, or small stuff in the interior to improve the functionality. Not necessarly big changes, but just small evolutionary changes that make the Sky just that little bit better.

The window, mirror and lock switches need to be in the center console. As for the brakes, it's not endemic to the '08 RL. Mine are perfect. They work great if the car is just started. They work great if it's allowed to roll with the engine off from the night before('08 RL)...Ray

I'm with you!! I'm looking to buy a 2009. BUT if everything looks the same, functions the same, with all of the same problems and no improvements and some tweaks? I'll keep what I have thank ya, and wait for the 2010's... I'll keep my current sky till hell freezes over if they don't fix current problems (radio visiblity and gages as far as internal issues) and improve what they already know is a winning roadster.. Every little tweak helps IMO..

Missing oil pressure and voltmeter gauges is one of my main beef's about this car. That and the useless cup holder's! I would sure like to see those thing's corrected before 2011...not that it will do me much good.

Otherwise, the Sky RL has been a blast to drive.
