It's the middle ground between full ESC/TC and no ESC/TC:

1. Full ESC/TC [Best for day to day driving]
2. Competition Mode. [Nice on most track days]
3. No ESC/TC [Drift racing...and stupid stuff]

Competition Mode allows you to spin your rear wheels (without TC messing with you) and swing your rear (without ESC interfering too obtrusively). However, there is a threshold of swing where ESC will help you out to prevent a wipe out. If you are drift racing or racing on a track where you need significant drift performance, then Competition Mode might be too intrusive, necessitating turning everything off.

Think of it this way: Competition Mode is to track day what Full ESC/TC is to day to day driving day.

Yes Sir, hit the TC button twice within a 5 second period and your display will verify Competition mode is set.

And you will have a Triangle warning light displaying on Speedo.

To Turn everything off hold the button for 10 seconds.

Competition mode saved me the other day.
I was turning left on an insanely blind curve.

When I finally committed, someone came around the corner.
I punched it, swung the rear end out of harms way
let off the gas, it grabbed, got back on gas, went where I needed to go.

If I had TC on I am 100% positive I would have been broadsided.

I run Competitive mode for AutoX vs disabling everything and it works great.

Does it change how much time it takes the turbo to spool up? The turbo always seems to spool up faster in competetive mode, but that could be because TC isn't slowing things down. But, thinking back to the mod were you bypass a relay to improve spool times, how hard would it be for competetive mode to change how that relay opperates?

I believe competition mode is strictly TC off with a relaxed ESC intervention threshold. I could be wrong though.

I think it just feels quicker, but it's not.

I think this calls for a science experiment.

I'll try driving with either the TC off or in competitive mode and see if I notice a difference in spool times.

TC being off is definitely quicker than TC on, gotta play around with competitive mode to see what's up I guess.

I'd really be interested in this if you grab some numbers. According to the everything I have read here the turbo's map has nothing to do with the driving mode at all but... big but- who knows what the hell the computer is really doing at that very moment in time because of all the computations going on. Not I!

OK, here's the plan: I'll videotape the tach and DIC (on boost) on several pulls, in normal TC/ESC on mode, TC off and competitive mode. I'd like to get this done this weekend, but there's a chance I'll be busy then and won't be able to do it.

Then, I'll use some video editing software to determine how long it takes for the turbo to reach peak boost. I'll average all the runs in each category, then post all the data on here.

Also, how much boost is normal? On my RL boost normally peaks at about 15 psi, sometimes 16. I want to know if I'm leaking boost or not before I start this.

My experience with this is if I leave all the nannies functioning, the car is slower in spirited driving. This makes sense since it is controlling wheel spin as the primary function. So punching it in 1st and 2nd results in much slower acceleration since it's reducing engine power to control wheel spin. With just TC off, it's not much better since the computer is also looking at vehicle attitude as the rear tires start to spin and pulls back power to control the car. In the competitive mode, the difference in acceleration is noticeable since it is allowing tire spin and some attitude slip. I get to the rev limiter easily in CM. I don't normally get to mode three since there's not too much difference in street driving and I'm not doing any drifting.

I've not really messed with competition mode before, but have used it for general driving the last two days. To me, the car drives more like it did when I first got it, much smoother getting out of first gear, etc. And I'm not talking about wanting to spin my tires or slide around...this is just normal driving...granted I'm not babying it, but I'm not passing all traffic around me either. Hopefully using CM most of the time isn't harmful, because now that I tried it I love it!

All my normal everyday driving is done in competition mode now. I'll leave TC on if it's wet out, or if I'm tired or not at my peak, but the rest of the time competition mode is king.

When I first got the car I noticed that it's really easy to make the tires squeal when turning right at a stopsign or light. Oddly enough, this doesn't happen nearly as much in competition mode. My guess the braking action of TC was taking grip away that could be used to turn.

I get 16 - 17 pounds of boost on the DIC always. On cold days I get up to 19 pounds. It generally ramps up to 16, then as the revs go beyond 4000 the boost increases up to 19 just before hitting 6k revs.
