Engine light is on

Redline turbo.
Ive added the custom intake and exhaust systems in Nov 2007. 6 months later my engine light has come on. The engine light is on because the dealer says the motor is running too lean because of the add ons. My comment to the dealer (service Dept) was why did it take 6 months and 4000 miles? I can unplug the computer under the hood then plug it back in and the light will go off but returnes to on after about a hundred miles. The car runs fine.
Inside the tail pipes its jet black. Any ideas? or questions i should ask the dealer ( service dept ) to correct this?

Please drop me an e-mail espresso @ bellsouth . net

Can this be corrected by the dealer (service Dept) if so how so.

i don't see how you can be running lean and have soot in the tail pipes...the soot is there because it is running rich. possibly there may be an intermittent lean out during accelaration(WOT) that may cause it to go on. If you still have it, put the stock airbox back in and see if it comes on. if it doesn't the cai may be throughing off the maf sensor....i don't know for sure, but if anything, cai seems to cause problems sometimes. i don't think i heard of exhaust causing it to run lean. just thoughts from an untrained amateur.

i was thinking, not sure how the o2 sensor is effected by your exhaust---if the location in in a different spot than stock, that could affect it too.

Did you install a hi-flow catalytic converter? If so, you will need to have your PCM modified so the check engine light doesn't come on.
