Signed the papers for my 08 today and hopefully it will deliver this Sat. The dealer provided a condition report stating among other items looked at prior to offering for sale was that the HPFP could be "heard through the firewall" with a resolution of "no problems as of now." While "no problems as of now" is a questionable resolution I am wondering what your thoughts are on this.
From research the HPFP is not something to be generally worried about and I am having the local GM dealer inspect the car, but again wanted your input. Again there is 29544 on the clock.
Yep, TS is spot on. With the 08 it SHOULD have the sound deadening foam around the HPFP and this does cut down the sound some but, from what I've been told, it's still something you can hear from inside the car.
As TS mentioned, the sound is not indicative of pending failure.
As a 2008 redline owner who just replaced the HPFP I will tell you that I didn't hear anything to indicate my HPFP was going out. It went into limp mode and threw 2 codes P087 and P 089. After checking EVERY possible cause for these codes I decided to change the HPFP based on advice from Tomato Soup and Robotech. After removing the fuel pump there was no visible problem with it, but replaced it anyway and that appears to have been the problem ( fingers crossed). Hopefully yours is fine. They are pricey from a GM dealer, $650, half that from GM Parts Direct online. Look at my post further down the line titled Hpfp. Good luck
I purchased one of these and I believe it reduced the noise by about 20%

Best solution to noisy pump (as pointed out, that is their nature) is a noisier exhaust! You won't be paying attention to the pump any more!
Oddly enough, as I have a coupe and everything seems to ne noisier with them given cabin resonance etc., my HPFP has never been obtrusive. But then I use a Solo Mach exhaust.
