Just Bought My New To Me 2007 Sky Redline!!!

Title says it all! I just bought a 2007 Onyx Black Sky Redline. Car has 65K miles and hasn't been touched as far as tuning or performance goes.

I'm currently at work, but I'll post pics later today.

I like to move quickly with my cars so I already know that I want to get rid of all the stock chrome. I can't stand the chrome! Then I'm getting some gloss black rims to top it off!

I do have a question for anyone that knows. What is the best way to take out the silver inserts that are in the brake vents? I hate those damn things and without them I think the sky looks way more like a vette!

Welcome to the forum and to the Permagrin club!

For those vents, the chrome is not a separate piece from the mesh...it's all one piece really. You can take the vents off and paint the chrome but you may want to go the easy route and just plasti-dip them.

I'm like you...don't like a lot of chrome.

Hey Robotech!

Sorry I was calling it the wrong thing. I meant to say the Fender side vent inserts. I'd like to take those out.

Here is a pic of how my car is currently:

First off, welcome! I'm with ya on the chrome. Since you have black you have a number of options; black chrome, matte black or carbon fiber. Plasti dip as robo suggested will be the easiest. Another suggestion is to look at the NA inserts with a single chrome bar. You will lose the actual vent though. Good luck with whatever you chose.

Looks like he means the fender vents.

No worries, makes sense though technically those are just silver painted, not chrome. LOL The vents up by your fog lights are actually functional (but not ideal) brake vents. The part you're referring to we usually call our fender vent inserts. They do nothing. LOL

Well, the stock ones do nothing. You can make them functional. Here is a thread on it:

Functional vents

The reason I pointed to that thread though is it goes over how to remove those inserts. Once they are out, they are easy to paint and then you can put them right back in if you want. Me personally, I like making them functional. There are a couple ways to do that too and that thread covers that as well.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Yup you were right I meant the fender vents. I went to my buddies house last night to do something about them, but since we didn't have directions we didn't want to break anything so we just painted them flat black. Here is a pic:

I definitely think it looks better, but thanks to the thread you linked to me I still think I'm going to take them out! Thanks again for your help!

I wanted to show you guys a pic of the car that I absolutely see as my inspiration! If I can get my car looking like this I'll consider all aesthetic work to the car to be absolutely done!
BTW this is not my car, and if any of you know whose it is I definitely want to thank them for having the awesome work done to their car and having the car that I want mine to look like!

Also,Robo did you ever take your car to the drag strip or get it dynoed? I'd love to know how much power your car is making it really is a lot of work!

Not yet. It's more of an autocrosser anyway. It DID however beat a 2016 ACR Viper on the autocross course and was chasing down a 2017 Z06 Z07 package Vette...was a tenth behind him.

I DO plan on getting a dyno done before April though. We'll see how that goes. 400 whp is what I'm shooting for but remember, I started life as a 2.4 NA, not a 2.0 Redline.

I do like the black vents. Also, Cobalt exterior door handles do fit our cars and they are available in flat black ready for painting. I note the car you are inspired by hasn't done that yet. One more thing you can black out. If you look at pictures of my car I changed out my door handles with Cobalt ones painted to match the rest of the body.

I'll have to look into those Cobalt door handles. My next item on my agenda is to try to locate rims that look at least close to the ones in that last pic! They really accent the look of the black sky!

Also, I am planning on buying black rims and having the brand new tires that are on my current rims moved to the new ones. Do you know how hard it will be to sell the stock rims? Also, what do you think the going rate for these are?

No idea what the market will bear on those wheels. You need to find someone that wants THOSE wheels.

I know I've seen a couple of those style of wheels (the black with the red lip) that will fit our cars. Just keep in mind we have an uncommon bolt pattern and a 55 offset. I have wheels that are 40 offset and they fit perfectly on the car. (18X8 wheels)

You can also replace the lower fenders w/Normsfiberglass fenders.
