Long time lurker

I have read quite a bit from a non-member standpoint and currently researching for my first Kappa. I'm torn as I really like the Ruby Red but I know I will not stay stock and if there is any collectible value to the LE colors I would not want to distract from that. Apparently bright red and yellow were the 2 most common colors? It will be a Redline manual that is all I'm sure of currently

Welcome to the forum. There are a number of views when it comes to the collectability of our cars.

There are 2 current articles now trending on our cars...both Kappas. What was mentioned was the 2009 Ruby Red as the fairest of the collectivity. As to the Red and yellow that u describe...they had a 4 year run. The Ruby Red...just a year.

And when comparing numbers between Pontiac and Saturn...Pontiac had 3 times as many dealerships as Saturn...and of course, a one year head start. (Solstice)

Another point mentioned was the R/L and stick shift for collectivity purposes.

To the moderators....why does Collectivity indicate I am spelling it incorrectly? I have a red line under it.

Buy what you like, do what you like to it. Enjoy. If you want an investment I suggest the Vanguard S&P 500 index fund.

Not the forum's fault. Your spell checker is in your browser on your PC.

Collectivity is a rarely used word, and is likely not in your spell-checker's dictionary. Just as an aside, you are using it incorrectly anyway, as a collectivity is defined as a group of people and not as a variant or form of either collectible or collectable.

I am of the firm opinion that none of those words apply, or likely will apply, to the Kappas, and certainly not any time soon. Buy what you want, do what you want to it, and enjoy it, but don't ever count on making your money back. It is very very rare to make money on a car, and even more so for a customized car.

I don't have full data from the 2007 year, but here are the color breakdowns for 2008 and 2009.

2008 Model Year
------------------
41U Black Onyx 2260
67U Silver Pearl 2246
74U Chili Pepper Red 2238
50U Polar White 1078
75U Techno Grey 1060
25U Midnight Blue 1003
34U Sunburst Yellow 956
72U Bluestone 937
38U Forest Green 566
58U Carbon Flash 550

2009 Model Year
------------------
79U Merlot Jewel 994
67U Silver Pearl 827
41U Black Onyx 565
74U Chili Pepper Red 500
48U Terrain Blue 407
50U Polar White 277
34U Sunburst Yellow 236
75U Techno Grey 180
38U Forest Green 102
22U Hydro Blue 90

While Chili-Pepper Red was one of the most common colors, Yellow was not.

The two most common seem to be Silver Pearl and Black Onyx.

According to the paint dept. at the Wilminton Plant, black was the most manufactured color to be used on a SKY. The yellow was a premium color with a 500 dollar upcharge because the car had to be painted white. Yellow was the one color that would not match the car panels.... because of the different materials used on the Sky.

Black & silver were indeed the most numerous colors.
Regarding the yellow and materials matching; it seemed like the dreaded "bluestone" also had issues with color matching
especially the little panels behind the front wheels.

I don't know which was worse...the green or bluestone.

Color Code 42U Dark Tarnished Silver (though it went by another name for the Sky that I don't remember right now) was discontinued during the 2007 run because they couldn't get different paint batches to match each other.

It was replaced with the Techno Grey.

The name of the color for 42U was Silver Graphite. Found it in the original 2007 product brochure.

Of cars with production numbers over 100 I would say Yellow and red are the most in demand. Based on looks and lower production numbers.
