Manual Transmission Flywheel slop

Have my engine out. Was looking at replacing clutch disc and pressure plate
while it is out even though it looks like about 50% left. With disc and pressure
plate removed, I noticed play of about 1" when rotating the fly wheel back and forth, in between the remaining parts.
Is this normal?

No clue but I'd go ahead and do it while it's out. To do it while it's in the car requires you to remove an axel then drop the differential and drive shaft to remove the transmission.

if its the redline, you have a dual mass flywheel, that is normal... replace the flywheel when you're doing a clutch its a chunk of change but a lot cheaper than doing the job again all over. you'll regret not replacing it, trust me....

These flywheels have a lot of play. Check and see if you can find a spec on it. I know some that come new in the box with 3/4" or so.

You need the spec for this specific engine to know if yours is toasted or not.
