Redline vs. S2000

Has anyone driven both an S2000 and a Sky Redline and could post a comparison of how they drive? I've got my Redline ordered but I'm finding the temptation of getting a used S2000 very hard to fight. I need some motivating reason to stick with my Redline order

IMHO first I have driven the S2000 and looked at the dynos from the redline, they are totally different beasts. The Honda is a very japanese type roadster with max HP high in the range, the RL is a power beast with torque and HP throughout the range.

Or to put it in layman's terms the Sky RL is a caged animal just waiting to get loose and eat anything on the road, whereas the S2000 is a mazda miata with an extra hamster running around the exercise wheel.

Torque

Yeah in my test drive the S2000 was REALLY fun, my only complait was the the car never really pinned me to my chair until i got out of first gear. So the launch feeling from the start is basically nonexistent. Does the Redline have punch off the line?

I have driven both and you have to rev the hell out of the S2000 to get some power out of her... do not forget that max torque is only 160lb/ft!!!!

Forget about it pinning you in your seat! This will not happen as it is a very gradual pull right up to its sweet spot....

The RL pulls hard off the line starting at 2000 rpm and has 260lb/ft, they are in different categories as far as I am concerned..... one a pussy cat and the other a lion!

First of all let me say I like the Sky RL and the Solstice GXP but why when comparing them to the S2000 everyone brings up the point that the S2000 "only" has 160 lb ft (not lbs/ft) of torque . Well what the S2000 does have is way more aggressive gearing and it weighs about 200 lbs less then the other two. Also, while not as impressive as they RL and GXP, the S2000 does make 85-90% of its max torque from just under 3000 rpms. If you look at 0-60, 5-60, and quarter mile times they are all about the same so the 260 lb ft must not be doing much for the RL and GXP. Let the flaming begin

I own a 2003 S2000 and I can tell you it absolutely pulls you back in your seat. The 0-15 acceleration leaves a little to be desired but 15+ is amazing. It sounds great and handles amazingly too.

With that being said I got the S2000 while I wait for the Sky Redline which I assume will be much faster with a more even acceleration 0-60.

I've never driven a Sky Redline but I drove a Sky (base) 5-speed and it bored the hell out of me. It was all looks and no performance. If you don't care about the performance the base model is perfect for you (if it is all about looks).

Either way, the Sky is the most gorgous car I have ever seen. I can't wait for my Red Line to come!

Honda S2000's are an engineering marvel.
240 hp from a 2.0 liter that's naturally aspirated...that's 120hp per liter!
Gotta respect that!

Sky Redline & Solstice GXP on the other hand need a turbo on it's 2.0 liter Ecotec to reach 260hp.

So basically, that is why the S2000 costs more because of that sweet VTEC motor plus it has a power-operated top. There is also a TON of aftermarket support for it as well just like the 350Z.

However, the Sky wins hands down in the styling department IMHO.

I was referring to the first engine it came out with, which was a 2.0 during the model years 2000-2003.

In 2004 it was revised to a 2.2 liter.

I will agree if there wasn't a Sky RL out there, I would have to look at the S2000, the Boxster, and the BMW most likely. That being said there is a Sky RL being made with my name on it (at least I hope so sooner or later ). The S2000 is a fine example of Japaneze engineering, but I would put the pull point slightly higher than 15, and even without the Sky I might have to select a different car than the S2000 since with all that fine japaneze engineering they failed to create an interior that, I being 6'4" could fit into.
