Is the section "Variable Assisted Power Steering" correct? Can the RL's hydraulic system be considered as Assisted?

Thanks MachSky for the nice spreadsheet comparison. I added an item: a comparison of the weight and HP ratios and this is what came up...

- - - - - - - - Sky RL - - -S2000 - - - BMW Z4 3.0i - - Z350
manual - - - - 11.28 - - - 12.04 - - - - 14.05 - - - - - 11.93
automatic - - -11.40 - - - - ? - - - - - -14.35 - - - - - 11.93

And the Sky tops them

Great comparison. But overall, I'd still take the Saturn because of the customer service and now with the new warranty, cant beat it. When I take delivery of my Sky Red Line, that will make number 7 for me. Looks wise it has the others beat. The car is made to be a second car, not a daily driver so trunk space really shouldnt be that big of an issue for many.

Chris
Not from what I understand. With Variable steering, the Power steering makes it easier to turn the car at slow speeds, then lessens it's assist as you speed up. Making it "harder" to steer at highway speeds.

The hydraulic is Assisted Power Steering, but not variable it always appies the same amount of power.

They are mechanically identical. Major differences are the styling and interior. As for options, the sky has more standard options but a higher base price. I haven't done a 1:1 comparison with identical options but I'm guessing they will work out the same. Only thing is a lot more pontiac dealers charge over msrp for the gxp since pontiac doesn't have the no-haggle policy like saturn. That said, there are still saturn dealers who will try to charge you a premium, but it's not as bad as the pontiac dealers (just going by what I've read in forums...).

I'd say just go with whichever one you like better.

Thanks for your input,i'm leaning to the RL and am going to test drive tomorrow. No disrespect to the Saturn at all, i'm 54 and respect the Pontiac nameplate, hell, its been around for years and have built a lot of great cars that are a credit to the marque but, just standing back and looking at both cars, the Redline has (in my opinon) much better lines.I currently have a 2003 Mini Cooper S,that is pretty well modded, underdriven supercharger, overdriven crank pulley, intercooler, ign upgrade, header, catback, cai, upgraded brakes,drilled/slotted rotors and ecm upgrade, its a blast to drive and reliable and i would be interested in modding the RL, if and when performance mods are available from the aftermarket.Again, i appreciate your input and look foward to possibly purchasing and becoming an active member in your community,if you'll have me.
Bill

I will take the 260 hp anyday over the 237 hp in straight line performance everyday and your pink slip too !

Don't forget the Sky RL weighs more than a S2000. You know weight has something to do with it. You better be a good driver because these two cars are a drivers race. And you shouldn't be racing anyways unless it is on a track

Thanks for puttig the time and effort into this chart. I get the question of which is a better buy all the time from "Sky Doubter's."

Great job Rich!

But I am pretty sure the power train warranty on my base Sky is the same as the R.L. 5/100000 (60 months)
