And when the weight is close to rounded thousands, such as 4000 vs 3000, it makes the ratio easier to factor. 4000/3000 is 1.33. So you can take 1.33 times the RL HP to see a comparable HP for the Challenger. 260 X 1.33 = 346.
Given the Challenger has 375, and still seems to come up short, it raises some questions as to how the power is being put down in the Challenger. Ooops, all I had to do was read the entire article. Challenger comes stock with the RS-A. Quote from the driver: "The grip of the RS-As disappears quickly". I suspect a Challenger with sticky tires should do much better.

With 235 wide rsa tires... no power is being put down. Even the srt8 comes with 245's, how can a performance car like this come with such narrow tires? Obviously the bean counters at chrysler dont care about this becuase if they did they'd put some wide sticky tires out back.

There is something special about how our power kicks in! I have done sprints against cars with 300HP ( BMW 335) and 330 - 360 ( G37, S4, SLK)
An I pass them every time. Not sure if its all about the Turbo. I have a stock RedLine and can not imagine having one with the power of say Eloys. INSANE!

Could be marketing. If you come out under the curve, then you get better and better. If you come out with the best you've got, it can only get worse.

Decided to do a weight/HP comparison. Challenger vs SKY. I am using the actual Challenger HP numbers and am equating what a SKY would need to match that performance:
SRT8: 425 HP SKY: 303 HP R/T: 375 HP <----- this is the one we're talking about in this thread. SKY: 281 HP SE: 250 HP SKY: 201 HP An RL can easily scoop an SE. The R/T "should" have a slight advantage on the RL. Tests referenced in this thread have shown otherwise. Sounds like it has the HP, but might be lacking on tires and gearing. The SRT8 should take a stock RL SKY easy. Our members with rides tuned 300+ will be competitive. R&T took an SRT8 to 0-60 in 4.8 and quarter mile in 13.3 @ 108.

Amazing, LS1 F-Body's even had 275 tires on all four if you bought a WS6, SS, or Firehawk. Chrysler amazes me all the time with them coming up short on their vehicles.

Wider tires (alone) will not improve straight launch speed. They should provide better steering response. They should provide better cornering (lower aspect). They can be run with lower psi (which is where you might be able to get some launch grip). But same psi, same diameter, and there isn't much of a difference in launch grip.
The RSA is an all season tire. It does not have high performance grip. A higher grip 235 will perform better than than a "same grip" 275 on the 0 to 60 test. GM tends to put the all season rubber on their mid to low level sports cars, and reserves the summer tires for the top end. That is why the NA Solstice/SKY run on all season RSA and the GXP/RL runs on Eagle F1 Summers. As for the Challenger, the SRT8 runs on Eagle F1 tires. The R/T runs on RSA. I'm guessing they figure those who buy the high end are doing so for the performance, and are willing to give up winter for high fun in the summer. Those buying mid to low are doing so for the looks. Hell, on a high production car, I bet well over half the buyers don't know what tires they are getting and half of those would go ape **** to find out they have summer only rubber. The basic mid to low challenger buyer expects all season performance. For those who know, they will swap 'em out for their preferred tire anyway. So might as well provide a basic all season tire to cover most buyers, and let the diehards mod up.

Yes, they are heavy, but they have the "muscle" to move it. Well, the top end versions do. The low end versions with the smaller engines are bought for looks. And considering the target buyer, perhaps less power is good.
