Tail of the Dragon

So some friends and I are heading down to North Carolina (from Michigan) over Labor Day weekend. The plan is to hit the 'tail on the way down there and crash with another friend who lives near Charlotte. We had planned to hit it on the way back too, but then I started thinking that there has got to be a ton of other roads that would be great to drive on the way back. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone want to drive along with a bunch of 20something year old kids?

Very brave; Tail and crash in the same sentence (-%

Take the Cherohala driveway. Not so many curves but it goes up over 5200 feet (Denver altitude) and has great scenery. Also you might like the foothills drive.

I agree that the Foothills Parkway is a nice scenic drive. But don't miss the Dragon and Hellbender 28.
