Trifecta Activation

I had decided several weeks ago when I ordered the Trifecta to use the traction control button to activate it.

Today I was going to do the installation but first I wanted to see how the traction control button worked......it didnt....!!

When I press the button, sometimes the light comes on on the dash and sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes when the light is on and I press the button, it goes out, sometimes it doesent. This will not do. What is the cause of this intermittent operation and how do I cure it?????

Mine does the same thing. If I push it "hard" it always works. I just assumed it is a switch problem.

That may be true, but if I am wanting to turn on the Trifecta Tune, I dont want to be messing around with the button. So I am looking for a cure

Is there anyone on this list that has a Trifecta Tune that is activated by the TCS button? Or am I the ONLY one????

Yes and no. The button works properly now, and probably always did. But the description on the manual is murky.

I am now trying to understand what is or is not available on that button once the Trifecta is enabled.
Apparently, once you activate the Trifecta with a double press, NOTHING ELSE IS AVAILABLE until you double click again. This means that with the Trifecta enabled (after a double press) , you have NO TCS (traction control) and a reduced ESC (Electronic stability control). You cannot get it back without disabling the Trifecta!!!!

At least that is my understanding at this time.

I have not yet uploaded the program because I have been trying to keep myself alive.

Right the button works like multiple latch switches 1 turns TCS off, 2 reduces ESC, (2 and hold turns ESC off completly) if you do any of these again, it will reactive

Now with the trifecta tune 2 pushes not only turns off TCS and reduces ESC but turns the Trifecta on. 2 pushes again will Turn TCS on fully enable ESC and turn trifecta off.

I am pretty sure if you do the 2 and hold that will also turn on trifecta but turns TCS and ESC off completely.

But glad to see you have your priorities right, keep alive then play with the sky.

Hi Jim

As I understand it from the Trifecta website order page, when ordering the budget tune, you can choose one of three options. Cruise Control, Competitive Mode, or None.

My interpretation of this is as follows:
  • Cruise Control - Enabling cruise control on/off switch to "on" will disable the tune (this is what I have on my RL)
  • Competitive Mode (CM) - Activate CM to enable your Trifecta tune in addition to CM
  • None - Trifecta tune is permanently enabled

If you chose Competitive Mode (CM) to enable your tune (via the TCS button), when placing your Trifecta order, then the next step is to make sure you are activating CM correctly.

The various modes you can place your RL into has been documented several times but I am providing a link (click here) to a good write up on the forum.

Apologies if you already understood this but I want to make sure that entering the correct mode via the TCS button, is clearly understood but us all, as it will help to know when the Trifecta tune/CM is activated versus enabling/disabling TCS only.

Addendum: This was also a great post from Bogie and Lightfoot, click here

I'm hoping to brighten your day with the above. Glad you're doing better!

From my short experience with the Trifecta I seem to be having more fun with the TC off anyway. Not that it's roasting the tires off but should they lose some traction the computer doesn't seem to be limiting the engine as much. I may be totally wrong but my butt-o-meter says it's so At times I'm really surprised at the quickness with the Trifecta.

Joe, in doing a quick eval with mine, I had a slight roll from stop, but as the poost hit about 21 the car shifted into 2nd and the tires chirped and the low traction warning displayed. So I don't know what max boost was well 21 was the top number I saw. Surprised to loose traction on a shift. But yeah it was a lot faster turned it off and was surprised the difference.

Mine hits 23 and stays steady. If it really is staying at 23 I will be very happy but if 23 is all the MAPs will read I may not be happy for long.

Does anybody know how much boost the DIC will display with stock MAPs?

The stock MAP is a 2.7 bar MAP so that equates to 24.99 psi. I believe the DIC will not round up so it should display 24 psi on the stock MAP AND tune.

Remember, if you change the MAP you need to change the settings in the tune so that you get the proper reading.

This is why with the GMPP tune they switch to 3 bar maps and tweak the tune for them so that you can read above 24 psi (I think it goes up to 29 psi at that point...14.7 time 2 is 29.4)

thx Robo
Do you know how to switch the DIC to metric? According to this post it may provide a more accurate reading as to actual boost.

In researching and reading numerous posts the 2007 could never read above 23 psi but the 2008 up could. I've seen a post or two indicating a 25 psi reading on the DIC but unsure if on stock MAPs

Never mind JohnWR anticipated my question several years ago.
