Trunk Gets REAL Hot in my RL

I bought the Saturn custom bag for the trunk and I used it on a trip to VA. When I got there the clothes inside the bag were so hot they felt like they just came out of the clothes dryer! I noticed the muffler is underneath the trunk, and that there is no insulation beneath the trunk mat, so that's probably why. I'm going to place some sound/heat insulation underneath the trunk mat to see if it helps.

Tell me about it. On our first trip to Ark in july 06, all of the wifes make-up melted..anything that could melt did! So I now drive with the trunk open to keep things cool. I get sh#$ for gas mileage but oh well

Your assessment is correct and you also have a deck lid that pretty much touches anything inside it plus the microscopic space inside there as well - all add up to a hot inside of the trunk. I wouldn't put chocolate in there...

I installed some COOL KING insulation under the trunk mat. A couple of bolts on the side and the mat will come up far enough to install several layers of insulation. Just cut to fit and reinstall the mat and it will get a little cooler in the trunk. Mind you that it won't make it a balmy 70 degrees but it will be cooler than muffler temperature. Just watch how you pack everything....Skip....

Well, skips idea is a good one, some of us bought Sky coolers from Latin Venom, here is the current and last thread.. July 08 NEW COOLER ORDERS FOR THOSE THAT DIDN'T GET ONE LAST YEAR What is unique about these one of a kind cooler/bags is that he included a silver "insulation" type material that you put down over the muffler area to keep stuff in the cooler cooler cold when riding. I have to say, it works rather well, since I took my cooler with me on an all day ride around Lake Okeechobee in the heat of summer this year and when I got home, I still had ice in the bag.. Insulation is the answer, BUT it will NOT turn it into a freezer either.. never-the-less, sum is bettrn nuttin..

The first trip I took I had a six pack of coke cans in the trunk. One exploded and several were almost ready to explode. Does get hot. I now carry cokes behind my seat. Haven't had any other problems, though.

The best fix is to get the RPI exhaust......No Muffler, just two resonators about 2/3 the way back..........no trunk heat at all!! Skycruzr has this exhaust and never has an issue. In my trunk, even with the smaller than stock magnaflow, it heats up my trunk quite a bit!

This is good to know 'cause I've never put anything in the trunk.

How long for frozen pizza to be done?

I have the Solo-Performance race exhaust (no muffler) and I've never had any problem with trunk heat.

There is a heat blanket under the trunk. The muffler still gets pretty hot though. You can also consider a system like the GT exhaust which splits out.
