TSB-07-05-25-007B Calibration Letter

Just got it in the mail today. The text of the letter is as follows:

"As the owner of a 2008 model year Saturn Sky vehicle, your satisfaction is very important to us.

This letter is to inform you that General Motors has developed an improved calibration for 2008 model year Saturn Sky vehicles and is now making this improvement available to you. This improvement is available at no charge during your New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

This new calibration will reduce the brake pedal effort that may occur during the first 60 seconds of driving your vehicle after it has not been operated for an extended period of time.

If you would like to have this new calibration installed in your vehicle, just contact your Saturn retailer to schedule an appointment that is convenient for you. Please reference bulletin TSB-07-05-25-007B when scheduling the appointment. Present this letter to your retailer as authorization to perform the upgrade."

Interesting.
I wonder if I will get one of those.
Fortunately, I have not had this issue yet.

Is this the ECBM fix or something entirely different?

Edit: not 10 minutes after I posted this I checked my mail and had the letter

I would guess you just call a local dealer and make an appointment with them.

The dealer needs to update the records to show you as the owner.

I purchased mine used as well (98 miles) and once I made a service appointment I was in there system.

Could someone post a scanned image of this document please. I called my Saturn Service department and they said they have no record of any such bulletin. I also received one of these, but left the letter at home. The service manager asked if I could fax him this letter.

I got mine yesterday, I take her in for my first tire rotation in the morning and will inquire. This sure doesn't sound like the retrofit that Bogie had previously posted about. I will post the results of my visit tomorrow.

I haven't received the letter yet. Was it from Saturn or the dealer?

as posted in the other thread in the main board...

Dealer says it's just a relearn for the ECBM. It's all computer stuff that should take 45 minutes, they say.

Any notifications like this come directly from Saturn. Dealers generally only send out sales and finance materials.

The letter came directly from Saturn and not from the dealer.

Could this be the "recall" my dealer was talking about? I was in for some cosmetic touchups (paint on the steering wheel from factory) and he said there were 2 recalls that he could take care of while it was in.

One was something about the seat hardware adjustment, and the other was a "computer upgrade", and that's all he could tell me. Ha!

I never got a letter, I've only had my car for a month or less.

1. This is for 08 RLs only.
2. This is not a recall.
3. Some late production 08RL have aux vacuum, and it either won't apply or is already applied at the factory.

As for the recall, I presume there is no recall because not everyone is having this problem, and not everyone will want the adjustment. The letter implies you have to request the update.

I will be holding judgment on this fix until we get some feedback from those who try it, or I try it and get first hand feedback.

My guess is the vacuum retrofit was an "option" they were looking at when investigating the problem. Perhaps they feel the current TSB fix sufficiently solves the problem. I believe the severity of jodenssky's problem resulted in an executive decision to send out a the vacuum option to meet a unique situation, but that option is not the ultimate solution. Albeit, it is probably available should users still experience problems after trying the current TSB update.

We'll get a better feel once folks try the TSB update and provide feedback here. I'll probably request it at my next oil change (in about a month or so) and will test it out.

I'll bet the fix just raises the idle to maybe 2000rpm to build up vacuum after startup, i bet they rather do this than an expensive retrofit of 2007 parts in all 2008 redlines.

They may do that for vacuum, but I bet they also have adjusted the sensitivity for initiation of OHB and/or changed the gains. The problem I have (and I suspect this is common for those having this problem) is the delay in time between pressing the brake and getting OHB to kick in, as well as the pressure required. I've always been able to stop my car....eventually....with OHB. The problem is getting it to respond before I plow into someone or some thing.
