What Tires is everyone Runnning?

I took my car out for the first time in the rain last night and I admit that I drive a bit aggresively but I am sorely disappointed in the Goodyear RS-A that came on the car. Even taking it really easy the traction control was on pretty much everytime i hit the gas. I want something that first and foremost has great dry traction but I would like good wet traction as well.

Potenza RE01R :-) I've kept the old RS-As for cold weather but i'm going to see how bad these get with our climate.

It is impossible for a tire to be great at everything. And when you throw a car that can corner like the SKY with an "all Season" all around tire something will suffer. It is OK in the rain, but you can drive on light snow.

Since I garage my car for the winter, it was all about summer performance and wet handling. There is NO TIRE rated BETTER than the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. There are some that are close and maybe as good, but I LOVE These tires!!

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

ANd to boot they look awesome!

Find a tire comparison site and check the states for WET ROADS!

I've got these too! They are a top rated summer performance tire according to tirerack:

Noise Comfort 7.28
Latest Test Rank: 2nd
Dry Track 8.26
Previous Test Rank: 1st (August 07), 1st (May ’06)
Wet Track 7.12

Overall 7.62

Wet traction is a 9.1 on the GS-D3's and it came in at the very top.

CHeck this out!

It has a great history and a lot of Vette owners run with these!

Yea, that wet traction is awesome. I just wanted some great dry weather traction and the ratings are different from consumer reports to tirerack. I take it very easy in the rain.

I have BFG KDW II's and I love them, I also saved my orig. tires/wheels for winter.
I don't know the difference between Max. Performance summer & Ultra High Performance Summer; The BFG"s are the latter and rate 8.2 on wet traction.
best advice is to read the reviews and talk with enthusiatic drivers in your area. Go to a local autocross event and talk with those folks, too.
Good Luck

I hear the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's are very good, as others have noted here. But I've never run 'em so don't have much for comparison. That said, I am very happy with the RL OEM Eagle F1 GS-2s. I've driven in rain from time to time and have found them to be very nice.

Since I drive all year from very hot roads, some flooded, often wet and even in snowy conditions ... plus toss-in long distances (heat build up). I was looking at a "Ultra High Performance" All Season tire. It is common for me to drive from New York to Maine, Arizona, Texas, Florida and places in between. I was really, really leaning to buying the Goodyear Eagle F-1 "All Season" tire until I read the 'Tire Rack' live test track results and then I purchased the "Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position" .

Happy trails everyone!

I have to agree.
Prior to the stick Redline tires, every Goodyear tire I drove in the rain was downright awful.
I have to say, I am happily surprised with the GS-2s.
As such, I am going to ride them until they need replacing. Doing AutoX should speed that process up just a Weeee Bit.

Those Goodyear GS-D3 sound nice, but I think I am leaning towards the tires that Rhys Millen uses which are the Potenza RE01R
Or
Maybe the Falken Ziex 912

I have a jeep for bad weather and snow.

Strange how people get different experiences from the same tires. I hated the Eagle F1-GS-2's the very first time I drove the car in the rain. I am getting ready to have to buy new tires and I think I am going to try these - Yokohama Advan S.2 or Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.

Well, I will say that I'm getting my bang with the OEM RSA's on my 2.4L. Looks like I'll be getting 30K on them which is not to bad. Of course they have not been abused and they have been rotated each oil change. HOWEVER, I doubt I will be replacing them with the same. I'll either go with one of the ones posted here by other members so far, I also however, will throw in the Michelin Pilots. I will do my homework veeerryyy meticulously when the time comes. Price vs performance is of course also a consideration..

I may have figured out some of my problem. It seems the non-redline depending on which rim option you go with can come with either the F1 or the RS-A, but the redline version is supposed to come with the Goodyear F1's. Their was alot of confusion when I picked up the car because they had got it from a different dealer and it had the chrome rims instead of the standard ones which wasn't shown on the vehicle details from GM but was on the invoice they got from the other dealer. When on the phone to the dealer the manager told me it would have F1's on it but I think someone who bought a non-redline liked the base redline rims and swapped them but the original dealer neglected to switch the tires and the dealer I was working with neglected to check it after the phone call. I am sure that with the 80 hp different the RS-A are an ok tire for the non-redline but it seems even saturn realized they needed a bit more grip for the redline. Now I have to see if the dealer will swap them or next year I am going to have to buy new ones.

And now for a trivia question:

From idle at a full stop, which vehicle puts more instantaneous torque to the wheels in first gear off the line? NA or Redline?

I don't know the answer, but consider the NA has 20% more displacement and a 5% stronger gear, at a point in the power curve where the RL doesn't have any turbo boost.

Another vote for the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. Look and perform great, certainly worlds better than the stock GS-2 rubber.

I always loved my Yokohama AVS Sport tires i had on my 3000GT years ago. They were excellent on both dry and wet. Cold weather was a no-go though.
Looking at tire rack, they're not rated as good as the Goodyear's though. Might be cheaper though, i'm in a hurry or i'd look.

THOSE are the tires that I saw on Brians car at Kentucky last weekend, they look very good and I was wondering how they did in rain, hate mine for sure.

I have Dunlop Direzza 101's and they perform just fine in the dry and the wet. A huge improvement over the stockers. Thanks to westers I can still make the low traction light come on when I want!! They are rated as Ultra High Performance Summer on tirerack
