We are working on a dual system for the Sky and Solstice... the challenge with the Sky is going to be the rear valence/fascia. But now with the release of the redline you will be able to order the dual valence directly from GM. But in the meantime we offer a single tip solution with almost the same look as stock but a much nicer sound and better performance.

I want dual exiting tips on my Sol.

I have a 3" exhaust on my Solstice right now with a Magnaflow muffler. 3" in and 2 1/2" out to the tip. Deeper tone, a little louder than stock but nothing wrong with the sound. I'm not sure who the other company was but it wont cost a whole lot more to do a 3" system. In fact, that is what we plan to do this summer. You guys and gals will have a choice of 2 1/2" or 3", aluminized steel or 304 stainless steel, single or dual exit (providing someone offers a rear fascia to accomodate dual) and choice of tip.

The stock system is fine except for the muffler. I have no idea what GM was thinking when they designed it.

As far as exhaust flow and back pressure:
When back pressure is lowered the torque/HP increases but it also moved higher in the RPM range. You can't have too little back pressure, at least not on this engine. However, you can move the torque too high in the RPM range and feel like you have lost your off-idle power. But with a manual tranny you can easily commensate by launching at a higher RPM. With an automatic you would need to swap the torque converter to allow the launch at the higher stall (rpm range), where the increased power has moved to. I hope this makes sense to everyone.

Tone of a Tooner

I should get my sky this week. A dule rear exhaust would be more visually pleasing. As for the exhaust note, i shall soon have a better idea concerning my preference.

is it safe to say that the sol dual will be identical to the sky's? I thought there were a few differences between the 2 cars underneath?

also, how long does it normally take with a new model before the parts can be ordered thru GM?

Most manufactures offer their parts immediately after, so that if something breaks they can fix it. Go to your local dealer, you may even be able to order some parts a month prior to the release of the car itself.

That's why I despise free flowing exhaust systems - the bottom end goes to hell and you have to jump all over the engine - in other words, you're now driving a Honda. As I recall, SuperTrapp makes a tunable muffler that can be adjusted by adding or removing disks to adjust the back pressure. Expect your gas mileage to suffer.

We've got a new SolForum vendor who just prototyped a dual center exhaust system. It looks really tight.

me i would go with side exhaust if it made it louder. but i think dual exhaust looks so much better than single just looks uneven. someone should photoshop one with side exhaust lol

For such a tiny engine, anything larger than 2.5" would probably lose power. If the stock system is stainless steel then you probably cannot increase quality at all, only sound, which is pointless (like spinners).

The muffler could possibly be deleted however, and replaced with an open resonator. Depends on back-pressure. It's far too early to be buying renegade aftermarket parts for a car that is barely even out yet and the ECU being reprogrammed at the factory as we speak.

When I get my R/L the first thing (well, one of them anyway) I do will be upgrade to full 3" with a cat delete (no emmissions here) with a nice low restriction muffler. I like loud exhaust as long as it is has a good tone, and while making it less restrictive will make it considerably louder, the increased exhuast diameter will lower the note a bit...not to mention you hear the turbo spool much better with a free flowing exhaust

But then again, I am getting this car for its performance potential, not to putt around in. I could see where somebody who just wants to casually drive here and there may not want to change the exhuast, but if you are performance oriented then it is a must.

BTW, those pics of that exhaust system above look hot

My opinion

I just put a magnaflo on mine. Was easy to install and took about an hour. Sounds is much better and the low rumble it presents and the sound when gunning it is much better than the ring a ding you get from the stock muffler. The magna was so much smaller too no wonder it sounds better. I brought mine out single exhaust with two round tips. Looks nice. Had I went dual I would have had to get another rear panel and I am not so sure it would really matter or been worth it. Just my thoughts.

Speaking of Aftermarket.

I just bought a 2007 Redline and have a paper saying that there is a Magnaflow installed.

I have no idea what it's supposed to look like. Anyways, I looked online and noticed that all the magnaflows have a quad tip.

My exhaust tips are the same as the stock ones. In fact, I can't tell the difference between my exhaust system and a stock one. They look the same to me. (in fact, almost identical).

The weird part is that there is another car on the lot that claims to have a magnaflow, and it looks the same too.

I'm confused, and thought I'd ask before I take the car to the dealer asking what's up.

I had this problem when I had my solo mach installed, the installer didn't have time to change the tips back to the stock ones and left the sol tips on (they come that way). Anyway the passenger side was not extended out far enough and the heat cooked the valance. the shop replaced the valance when they changed the tips.
