I am considering the GMPP tune. I must say I am currently very happy withthe performance. But, if I can get a few more RELIABLE ponys I will be very tempted.
I did a search but turned up some old threads on the GMPP reliability. Intercooler issues and bad flashes seem to be the main issues.
Looking for some up to date info in the GMPP tune. Should I do it? this car will be a daily driver and I do not want to blow up the motor to get a few more ponys.
I also am considerin the GM cat back. I want a little more rumble and the Magnaflow seems a bit too loud. I heard the GM package is the same is a BORLA. Is that true??
Thanks

if you want reliability as well as keeping your warranty intact....go with GMPP tune.
other tunes are also reliable, and will not blow up the motor My car is a daily driver (even during snow season here in rhode island), and I never had any issue with the car...and no blown turbo as well
anyways, I used to have the GMPP exhaust. The sound will give you a good rumble and will be happy with it. I sold mine since it is only 2.5". I need a bigger diameter (3" like solo mach-shorty which is a little louder than solo mach). The sound is a lot more and deeper compared to the gmpp exhaust. And yes, I believe that gmpp exhaust = borla. The gmpp exhaust is expensive tho......
If you want just a little rumble like the gmpp exhaust.....why don't you get the SOLO Mach exhaust. It is the most quiet exhaust of solo......and will probably suit your taste. It is good quality and cheaper than the gmpp exhaust kit.
I can't really comment on the exhaust part since I am installing the 3" Magnaflow Quad tips tomorrow. However, I did have the GMPP Tune installed a week ago and love the performance upgrade. It's a slight upgrade but I think it was worth the money.
I've heard some people have a better experience with the GMPP Tune than others. I have peaked the turbo at 24 psi which I heard is pretty rare. Some can't get past 20 psi. Regardless, I love the tune and totally recommend it. Good Luck!!
I don't drive mine as a daily but I've not had any issues with the tune since it was installed. The performance boost is great. The cat back does have a great rumble to it and I like the chrome quad tips. Finishes off the back end much better than the stock.

Reading the forums, the issue with the intercoolers failing (expanding and mechanically failing) is not correlated with the GMPP tune, its a manufacturing / quality problem that is showing up on factory stone stock GXPs and RLs.
I have an early 07 and the GMPP tune made a big difference. I chose to get the GMR tune over the GMPP tune and it had a HUGE difference over the GMPP tune. Driveability is still great but it feels like a V-8 up through mid-range

Please clarify your above comment. Did you have the GMPP tune before the GMR tune? And thus your basis for comparison? Or is this just hypothetical bench race talk?

You must be new here...the official policy is that whatever tune YOU have is better than all of the others.
Mbeardsley, actually I am not new here. I have been here since Sep 2006.
I do agree with you though, the "official policy" is getting old. Too many parrots offering their biased product cheerleading when they clearly have no grounds to do so.
If you have personal first hand experience with more than one tune, by all means,we'd all love to hear it. But don't try to imply that you have personally used two different tunes and then try to pass it off as your own personal experience. I find that to be totally bogus.
I see "the Elder" has been online and has had plenty of time to clarify but has chosen not to respond.
By all means dmraco, go for the GMPP tune. Especially if you prefer an engine warranty. I have the GMPP tune myself too, though I have not installed it yet. I won't subject you to a second hand opinion as I have not tested it myself either!

With some of the early adopters of the GMPP tune there were sensor issues (actually I believe it was Bosch sensors and the gaskets too). AFIK that's probably NOT an issue anymore because all of the new kits have the updated hardware.
I know because I had one of the earliest kits and there were some gasket issues. No big deal. They got swapped out without problems.

I have the GMPP and 4 of us with the GMPP tune all went to the same Dyno on the same day.
The average was
265hp and 320 ft-lbs of Torque at the wheels.
All 4 vehicles were within 2 hp of each other and the Torque was similar
Considering the Redline comes from the factory with a stated 260hp and 260 ft-lbs of torque at the crank
It's a nice increase that is highly noticeable.
The sensor issue was that some came with dry rotted O-Rings. Replacing the O-Rings allowed the sensors to seal properly and not leak.
IMHO - It's worth the money
DMRaco, I just noticed your location. We are real close. We could meet up and swap from one sky to the other so you can feel the difference yourself before laying down the cash. I'd also suggest going to my Dealer to have the work done. It's Saturn of West Chester.

But sorry no. My Wife hasn't even driven the sky yet.
What I was stating was DMRaco could thrash his sky with me as a passenger
then
we could switch to my sky, with me driving, to compare
Sorry DM, only I drive my Sky

I have had the GMPP for 2 weeks. To me, the tune makes the car more driveable. It holds power longer through shifts (not sure I am describing this right). But the without the GMPP, there were far more events where the boost hit its max and acceleration suddenly died. It is far more enjoyable to drive now. It's smoother and I don't have to adapt my shifting style as much to enjoy the drive.
I have the 3 inch Magnaflow and I have always liked its sound. What I did not like is the tick-tick-tick of the fuel pump that made the car sound like a mixmaster. I had the dealer put in the insulation around the pump - they charged it to warranty and it was no cost to me. This took off the high frequency in the ticking sound and the car sounds much more like a true sports car. This I recommend to any RL owner.

My Dealer is Saturn of Santa Clarita - A Great Dealer!
Great performane, valid warranty, bang for the buck, get it.
Have had the GMPP tune for 3 months now. No problems at all and love the kick. The torque boost is very noticable and consistency throughout the band seems to have come with it. Have to admit that I've not seen boost past 21, more frequently 20.
