Hahn III Dyno Results

Hi everyone,
OK you asked for it so here it is, I've added the dyno results in PDF format. To all you turbo experts I'm going to ask for some clarification to what it means because before putting in the turbo I thought I had a 177hp car and now I have one that the dyno says is only 150hp. But the good thing is she really kicks a** now. When I need to pass or go up a hill the power is there and very smooth. She sounds great and honestly I love the spunk she has. So not sure what the dyno or HP means any more but the difference after installing the turbo is night and day. I have an even bigger permagrin on my face....

Well first thing is, you had a 177bhp car before any modifications. On this type of dyno, I wouldn't have expected to even see 140 of that go to the wheels. In my Ion RL for example, it's rated at 205bhp from Saturn (although grossly underrated) and on a Mustang Dyno completely stock, put down 187whp and 177wtq. Far cry from the claimed 205. So, don't worry about that at all because Mustang Dyno's are more accurate on seeing the difference in hp after modifications have been done. Do you have any dyno's on this dyno before the upgrades? The 150# definitely still sounds low for me though after any turbo upgrades to this motor, even on a mustang dyno.

my guess is your dyno operator didn't know what he was doing.

The 150 was after the install, if I read his post right.

That can't possibly be right. That's about what I'd expect before the turbo.

My understanding is the 2.4L Sky has 177 bhp and 142 whp stock, either that dyno was setup wrong, or those dudes didn't know how to check out this car, OR both--That print out also does not look very good... I think I like RPI's dyno charts much better and in color--

It has to be a mistake some were, because I'm considering a stage 3 from hahn and if this is what I'm going to get than there is no way I'm going to get it.
I'm sure that when he sees this post he will have something to say I hope

That's what I was saying. I can't imagine how after ANY turbo install, he would only see that type of power.

That 142whp I would expect to see on a dynojet type dyno, not a mustang type dyno.

No I didn't even know what a dyno was until someone on the forum asked me to have it done. Just after the turbo was installed I had it dyno'd and it was pinging so much that they couldn't do the test. Found out we had to change the spark plugs and once that was done the car drives like a dream.

The print out actually has the five colours and is pretty sharp but when I emailed it to myself it came out in B/W.

I don't know about he rest of you but these dyno machines are hard to find. My mechanic had to phone all around and finally found a shop 45 minutes away that did it.

I'm not sure if their machine isn't appropriate for our car but the main reason for doing it was to make sure there was no pinging and that the car was running properly. The guy running the test was pretty happy with the results of how it sounded and the fact that most of the pinging was gone based on the first time he tested it.

It's been nice weather the past few days so I have really had a chance to drive her and I tell you this turbo makes a BIG difference in performance and get go! I'm having a lot of fun and now I have the car exactly the way I want it.

All I can say is there is a huge difference in power, now I don't know if it's the way it was dyno'd but either way this turbo kit was well worth it to me. Prior to doing the turbo I found the car didn't have enough power to go up hills as she seemed she was being pushed to hard, now even in third she just flies up them. It really is amazing the difference, can't say enough about it.

Oh, by the way my mechanics said this was the best turbo kit they worked on. Very easy and detailed instructions and when they needed questions answered regarding the pinging and detonation the people at Turbokits (dealer for Canada) were extremely helpful.

Found a Dynojet Dyno Machine

OK dyno experts, as soon as the weather gets better I'm going to bring my Sky to get dyno'd on a Dynojet. Is there anything I should be telling the dyno operator?

Tell him your last dyno was messed up. Just talk to him about the car. There's no special procedure for this car over any other, just that it's RWD so will sit opposite the way my car would, a FWD car. The dyno should be done in either 3rd of 4th gear, as those are normally the ones with the closest ratios to 1. 3rd gear should show "higher" numbers than third because of gearing usually, and you'll get arguments from different people about which is better to use and why, but it doesn't really matter as long as you use THAT gear (whichever one you use that day) every other time. Consistency is the goal, because dynos are best used when figuring out the effect any certain modification has had on the car once installed.

Hahn Stage III?

Ok,

I am not sure, but is that dyno before the turbo? My Hahn stage II dynoed at 254 whp. My Hahn Stage III dynoed at 301whp. It was on a DynoJet. I have friends who say the mustang dyno numbers come in about 10 to 15% less than a DynoJet. So even at 300whp it should still dyno about 270whp on a mustang dyno.

Correct. Not sure what was wrong with the other dyno, but it definitely didn't look right.

It was after the turbo was installed. That is why I put it on line because I was confused with the numbers. I will put it on the dynojet dyno as soon as the weather gets better and hopefully I will get closer to 300 as well.

All I know it really is a lot faster then before the turbo was installed.

Sure you got the ECU installed? Contact Hahn and let us know what they say.

Yes the ECU is installed! At first when the wrong spark plugs were installed the car was having problems really pinging but now with new plugs the car runs very well. I won't be calling Hahn until after I have it dyno'd on the dynojet. I called but the person that does the dyno's is sick so I will have to wait a while. Doesn't matter the weather hasn't been good so my baby stays in the garage. I will post once I have the new results.
