HID Help

I see some of you on the forum have HID kits installed on your Skys. I was thinking about installing a kit on my Sky when it arrives in 2 weeks. Is there anything I should be aware of or have to modify to do this upgrade? Does anyone have pics of their Sky with HID?

...Question...what's a HID ?....Do u mean.....HEADS -UP, INSTRUMENT, DISPLAY ?....If so...then ....why not get a CORVETTE....I think they still have the HID's as an option.....

What is HID

WHAT IS HID
-------------
HID, High Intensity Discharge, refers to lighting technology that relies on an electrical charge to ignite xenon gas in a sealed bulb, similar to the lightning phenomenon in the sky. (NOT THE CAR) HID lighting does not have a filament but instead creates light by igniting an electrical discharge between two electrodes in an air tight tiny quartz capsule filled with xenon gas. HID lighting are also called Xenon lighting, referring to the gas inside the bulb.

HID vs HALOGEN
----------------
HID lighting improves durability by 10 times as road vibrations can cause damage to halogen filament, but there is nothing to break inside HID bulb. These light sources also produce a blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight.
The color temperature is more than 5000K compared to 2300K for halogen. The light output from a 35W HID Xenon lamp is 300% more light than a 55W halogen bulb. The HID Xenon system will also consume much less power from your vehicles electrical system and generate much less heat during operation.

HID ADVANTAGES
-----------------
3X Brigther & more consistent illumination of the road, and increases comfort & reduces fatigue when driving at night
Produces blue-white light that is safer because it is closer to natural daylight
10X Longer Lasting. No need to replace for life of the vehicle
35% less power consumption, thus generate much less heat during operation

Headlight bulb Technology!
What is HID?
HID (High Intensity Discharge) is a radically different type of lighting technology. HID lights operate more like vapor filled streetlights. Instead of heating a filament like standard halogen bulbs, HID bulbs create light by zapping an arc between two electrodes. The arc excites a mixture of Xenon gas and metallic salts, producing a bright white beam of light that resembles natural daylight.

And blinds the drivers of oncoming traffic IMHO--How they let these things on the market --I just don't understand--They are very popular down here--BTW--Since I am being blinded by these lights (and everybody else heading towards them or even from behind), it has made me aware that perhaps I need to get them, that way we have 2-blinded drivers heading to each other--

I think SUV's and trucks are the problem...not HID headlights. They should force trucks and SUVs to have their headlights in the bumper not in the line of sight with other vehicles on the road....

Wish it were so, down here unfortunately its the cars with these lights. I drive an H2 with regular halogens, they blind nobody, now if I turn on my roof mounted rack lights, nobody will see anything-- However, Bmers, rice machines, you name it are being modified with these HID lights, I have only seen couple trucks with them, no, its cars with these things--Some look pure super brite white, I have also seen them with a "blueish" tinge to them--While we are at it, why do people drive with fog lights on when it ain't foggy??

I agree with MidnightBlues. I absolutely HATE them and will never install them in anything I own. I also do not understand how the federal government (DOT) allowed these is amazing. And they will be nearly as aggravating whatever their "altitude" is. They may be wonderful to drive behind, but anybody that gets a faceful of them has a problem. I have met NOBODY that likes being a "victim" of HIDs.

Blind

To get back to what the origanel post was about yes there is a little mod that you have to do because the wires are not long enough to the balest be mounted but one way that I could see and I like them I have never been blinded by them and I live in LA so almost every car has Hids

There is the black plastic cap over your projector housing. All of the wires are internal so you have to drill a hole to pop the wires through to connect them to the ballast/ignitor combo.

took me 5 minutes and I am a moron when it comes to that kind of thing...very straightforward.

Very worthwhile mod...While I agree that those kids in Civics and other cars that were NOT made for HIDs can be a little bright but I would argue that any vehicle with projector beams should not blind anyone if they are aimed properly...the light pattern does not scatter...it is cut off very sharply and should not get in the oncoming traffic's eyes.

I think a lot of cars look better with their fog lights on. In the Sky, it's a marked improvement over the DRLs during the day.

in reality you should not have HID running lights.. DRL run at a lower watt then the low beams on your car the lower wattage will cause damage to the HID.. so that is somthing to think about.. ALSO HIDs will not blind you when put in our housing we have projectors they have a cut off line and light will not go above that point.. HID distort light alot more and throw it everwear.. only time HID will blind you is when retards put them in a regular housing.. .. as for install most all are plug and play now a days.. look for a kit that has ballest and ignitor built into one box they are less apt to fail like the ones that have a ingnitor box and ballest box.. hope this helps and clears stuff up for everyone

Make sure you hook up a relay for the HID. For the day time running lights. That provides less power and you will burn out your day time running lights relay if you dont give the HID its own relay.
