Info On Painting Calipers

I was thinking about painting my calipers red and putting some of those Saturn stickers on them. My question is how hard is it to take the calipers off for painting? Do you need any special tools? I'm tool challenged to say the least. I seen that some of you have said it is easy but what is easy for some is hard for others. Thanks for any tips I can get.

Gee, thanks!

It was easy, as you can see. I left them on the car, and did it in an evening. I am going to do BABY over the Christmas holiday with my daughter helping. We all think it will look really great on a Silver Pearl car, even more so with the red leather interior...

I encourage you to do it. Nothing like customizing your own car to make it feel really special, and know that you did the work to make it that way.

If your seats r black...go with the black painted calipers...I saw Dengel's in person (Diane). It came out great. She took the calipers off the car. Stated it was no big deal. It is basically winter here so I am waiting for the Spring to kick in and I will do mine...

Too bad SKYBABY (Teri) is not here to defend herself but her defense is indefensible...the pink calipers...no one could describe them...

With my ION Redline, I found that you could take the brake-pad-holder portion of the brake system off altogether, and paint that separately, then you could paint the piston part of the caliper while partially attached to the car still (don't take off the brake lines, 'cuz then you get fluid everywhere!). Taking the holder part of the caliper off made it extremely simple to get everything painted. Especially if you're using spray paint. If you're using a brush on paint, then jdigiant's method probably is still the simplest.

It's really an easy job. First time I did mine, took me about an hours worth of work to do the front two wheels (about 4 hours total time though, allowing time to dry before reassembling).

Do a search on eBay for "Saturn Sky" and you will find a guy that does caliper decals. I did mine in a black SATURN Logo to match my black Red Line "SPIRIT." I just ordered silver decals to do BABY over the Christmas holiday.

They are not regular stickers, the material is rated for extreme heat!

Just specify Redline... like I did.... in lieu of Saturn...
