Jan. 25th my Sky becomes a monster

Thursday the 25th will be a nervous one - my Sky gets her Hahn Stage II dropped in. She'll be in for "under-the-hood" surgery all day Thursday and Friday.

Visiting hours will be Friday at 5 just before I get to wheel her out of the shop.

A few inches of recent snow will keep me from dropping the hammer right away. A 250+ RWHP without traction control in 20 degree weather with snow covered roads is not a good way to "check out what she's got"...

I'll wait for a dry, sunny, warmer day before that happens.

Aside from TMRPRO's earlier link from 9/30/06, who else around here has the Hahn kit right now?

Just don't hammer it too hard on start off or around a turn and not having traction control is not a problem. If you have ever driven a performance car without traction control, not having it in the Sky won't be any different. Slow, controlled, and easy application of the throttle. Think smooth, like you are delivering eggs and want all them to get there in one piece.

I stopped by the shop tonight to check out the kit. 4 massive boxes!

They had my 16g turbo out on their display case for other to gawk at. A thing of pure beauty!

Basically, they have the ordeal scheduled for 2 days. Day 1 will be the ECM pull out and ship to Hahn. They will also do the main strip down of parts. Day 2 will be the bolt-on of the new manifold, new fuel injectors, turbo, intercooler, and various fluid lines. Final addition will be the return ship of the ECM from Hahn.

As for driving, I have driven performance cars before without traction control in the mid-80's. It has been a while since those days and my cautious nature should keep the front-end pointed straight (at least until summer and I get used to the power again).

I'll be sure to take video of my first launch!

Turned over the keys tonight. Unfortunately, pick-up will not be until Monday.

Weather pending, I'll get some video on YouTube or some other goofy site.

Don't forget to invest in some better tires. The first test drive of the Sky after I turbocharged mine proved the stock tires........SUCKY

Hey RPI - what shoes did you put on yours to make it stick? Did you go Japanese (Toyo, Yokohama, etc...) or stick with the more Euro / American names?

As for the kit, I got an update call today from the guys. They said the Hahn kit was an amazing set of machined out parts. Everything fits like a nice tight glove with no flashing or missed chrome / buff areas. They were shocked to see the attention to detail put into the parts.

They had to place one call to clarify some instructions. In their discussion, they said you could hear someone going over to a car, popping the hood, checking out a few things, slamming it down, and explaining the details to their question.

One last thing...they said my kit was only one of the first 10 or 12 they have dished out. Given my proximity to their place (WI vs. IL), I may also be able to get some possible Stage III potential down the line.

291 RWHP for the III uptick (no cost yet but it adds on to most of the II kit so it may not be more than 1-2 grand more).

Overall the kit is on the money. There are a few things we didnt like about it and thats why we made the changes we made. A good installer will know what to do as far as modifying the kit (horn cannot be mounted where they say, bad choice of throttle body-ic pipe coupler, etc.) I also recommend getting some Earls flameguard for the oil feed line to the turbo.

I had horn issues with the dual CAI but was able to bend out a better piece to fit. I'll see what they do with the horn (they are ingenious guys, much like yourself).

I'll also ask about protecting the oil feed line - good idea. When Hahn releases some of their machined parts like axels and other drive parts, I'll be sure to look to them as well. Clutch and flywheels too!

I wish everyone on the site could see this exchange. THIS IS THE REASON WE HAVE FORUMS!!! Not to bash color choices, tranmission choices, or other useless banter. Educate others based on your own experience, not heresay or made up crap to make you sound more "intelligent than you really is".

RPIpower is 'da man!
