LS1GTO.com Forums - Stock long block LS2 does over 730rwhp!!!!!!!!! - Page 4

Check these links out. This is a car that our "race team" built. It's a BONE STOCK 05 GTO LS2. When I say bone stock I mean, mount the turbo, upgrade fuel system, write a tune and go. Didn't lift a valve cover. I didnt' have my hands in this build cause I am 2 1/2 hours away from the garage, but this is a good example of what LSx motors can do and it's a 74mm. This thing has made a ton of passes at the track, and triple the passes on the street at 19+psi in a lot of cases. Timing chain finally broke last month, and the car has been getting BEAT on literally since november when it was built. These motors are the best on the market period. Show me some proof of a bone stock 2JZ doing something like this. Not that they aren't good motors. An LS7 weighs 458lbs approx, and LS1 425lbs approx and a LS2 415lbs approx. just to give some estimates. Don't get me wrong I think the 2JZ is a great motor as well, and are capable of making huge power for a 6. I love 6 cylinder potential, I am building a twined 4.3 right now looking to make 1000 flywheel with that. Just differences in likes I guess. Hey it's all part of a great disscussion. That's why I can't wait to see what this LS3 does in this build up.

There is no way mod for mod that a 2jz could take a lsx engine. As the saying goes there is no replacement for displacement. I know a guy in orlando fl who has a street legal 95 mustang with a 331ci engine and turbo setup that just put down 1170rwhp. Everyone calls hims the supra slayer because he has beat all of the built street legal supras down there.

That statement is completely wrong. You obviously know nothing about the lsx engines. There is a huge aftermarket following for these engines. lsx engines have been not only in the corvette but also the camaro and transam. There are not only a ton of heads and cams available for the engine but also a ton of different stroker kits as well. Then add on top of all of that the large selection of power adders also available for them they have a huge amount of potential. For less than $300 you can take a bone stock LS1 to over 420rwhp with just a cam.

Yeah, there's a cammed LS3 vette that runs 10.8's on streetfire..Plus LS1, LS6, and related truck engines from 4.8-6.0 are all for the most part interchangable. Slap some LS6 heads and cam into a LQ4 6.0 and you are easily making over 400 hp.

That's a nice car. No one doubts the power potential of a 2JZ. The motor was far from stock. Heads were reworked with bigger valves. A custom intake, cams were changed No2 was added. Plus look at the problems they had. Another thing, it said the bottom end was "originally" supposed to be stock. Re-read my post. The LS2 was totally stock top to bottom throttle body to oil pan. Original everything. The supra went 138 mph. The GTO went 131 mph with the 588whp tune and boost levels. Would have went faster with the higher boost setup, but was doggin running 1/8 mile so he didnt' get kicked off the track. We also took a stock junkyard 100k+ motor 6.0 LQ9, dropped it in a silverado SS that went 11.88@119. Heres a link to some of the other stuff that we have done.

The LS Family of motors is still king.

ive heard that the world record for a hp on stock internal is 1015hp on a 2jz, now ive only heard this and havent actually researched it, but it seems like its possible. but anyways how bout we just say that both engines are great platforms and stop threadjacking this guy, just to each his own for the motor.

I know of a stock internal ford 5.4l v8 that made 1400rwhp... then he snapped the crank.

Some day, when I have 100k to burn on a car, it will be a tough call between a viper and a sky with a LSx

I've always been a Saturn fan, but the viper is my dream car... Now seeing the people with the V8 Saturn's just makes me want to rethink what my dream car really is.

Has anyone done one of these conversions on their own? Seems like a relatively straightforward swap and probably only needs 7-10k in parts and some serious labor.

Maybe new. Be MUCH cheaper to get one out of a C6 vette. Plenty of guys are putting in forged blocks so it shouldn't be hard to find one. Barely used block and transmission would come in under 10k.

Good luck trying to find one. By the time you get one, have it shipped etc, your not talking about much more than a new one. Also, try and find a t56 tranny on the cheap. The cheapest one I found was $2000 with 30k on it. A new one was $2400 shipped. Once you get the motor, you have to use the all the bracketry off a Camaro, so there is added expense buying those. Trust me, I built my own and know the expenses all to well. It's best to go with new.

Fleabay has a T56 and LS2 for as low as $6500. One with 5000 miles for $8900. The guy selling happens to be located in Oklahoma City and luckily for me I have an F250 with a big trailer (I'm not planning on buying it, just making a point).

I understand that their is costs associated with it, but I also know that if you look in the right places you can find even better deals then that: go to corvetteforums.com and browse the C6 parts for sale for a few weeks. An LS2 (or two) will pop up, and you'll likely even get some free mods out of it (H/C packages are pretty commonly left on the motor when they're sold). $9000 is a hell of a lot cheaper than new ($12k crate + trans); and is a TON cheaper than $25k.

So does anyone have a write up with the parts necessary to do it and what all labor is involved; or at least give me a place to start researching in case I should want to in the future?
