MagnaFlow 3" update

Well, it was apparent that I didn't get everything positioned as needed. Rattle, rattle, clankity clank. Also, the right tip set was touching the valance. I grabbed a 15mm socket and a ratchet (any guesses as what brqand they were!?!?! ), jacked up the right side and found the rattle. The first pipe was touching some sheet metal. OOPS. Loosened things, twisted and shoved some stuff, and tightened everything. Loosened the clamp for the right tips and adjusted that as well. Poof - no more rattles.

Next, now that I have burned a tank of gas with the new exhaust I have a better idea what has happened.
1) Still fairly quiet. But it is throatier under load in the mid rpms. NICE.
2) RLs are so quick it seems hard to get a grip on where the power increase is. Now, I can say - it's everywhere. So it seems to be a subtle change but it isn't.
3) In first gear at 2000 rpm if I simply slam down the throttle the tires have a hard time containing the torque. In other words, it will break loose in a heartbeat if the TC is off.

At this point there is only one down shot to all this - in SCCA stock class I can't change the intake or cat. THAT would be TOO cool.

I don't think there's a single Redline with both Magnaflow exhaust and a CAI. They're coming out very soon, so hopefully I'll let you know when I get mine, haha

WRONAMUNDO!

I have the Magnaflow 3.0 Inch Exaust (SPIRIT WAS the prototype car).

I also have the KappaSphere CAI, and put over 1,000 miles on it (SPIRIT IS the prototype car.)

I have been fitted for the Magnaflow High-Flow Cat, but they are waiting on a part to install it (SPIRIT WILL BE the prototype car.)

But as of now I have the three inch exhaust and the CAI. It should be dynoed with them both in place by KappaSphere next week. Then once Magnaflow gets the parts for the cat, I'm sure they will dyno all three in combination.

Keep us posted on the numbers because I am planning on going with the Magna Flow 3 in. exhaust and High Flow Cat's along with the KappaSphere CAI.

Hope it's not asking to much but could we maybe get a little video clip after the three are installed?

I don't have the equipment to do that, but I bet a lot of my buds that go on our runs do. If all the work is done by March 31st - the date of our next run - I will see if I can get somebody to shoot some videos of the various configurations including mine. How's that?

Thanks for lending your car out, JohnD.

I like to review your mods, then decide if it's worth it for me. So far, the 3" exhaust was purchased. I'll get the CAI as well once I pay myself back for the exhaust purchase.

Mine is getting installed today, not a perfect install. Tech is trying to get the tips equal in distance from opening and is having trouble. Will see how it turns out. Might have to take it to a custom shop that can bend the 3" a little. If I do that I will have the shop weld the sections rather than use the clamps. Looks very cool though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine are off about 1/2 inch or so. Not huge for most people but might as well be the same. Heading for AZ in the morning, will try to post some pictures after the install. If the tech is not able to make them equal, then to the custom shop. Will keep the forum up to date.
