Magnaflow High-Flow Cat Update

I got SPIRIT back from Magnaflow today. And I got an update, too.

The bend that the cat requires is pretty crazy. The Magnaflow guys created a beautiful piece of modern art by welding together several pipes with bevel cuts - but the curves are less than optimal and would probably impact performance in a significant way. They never finished welding all the seams nor did they install it and get any dyno results.

What they DID do is order a special custom pipe that has the required bend built into it, and they expect that either later this week or next. When it comes it, it's back to the shop for SPIRIT and then they should have no problems fitting the special pipe to the cat and then the cat to the manifold and exhaust system. At that point we should be able to get some good dyno numbers.

So that is the very latest. If you wanted to know why no numbers are up and why I haven't reported my opinion on what I feel about the cat, there is your answer.

Oh, one other little tidbit. When I loaned out SPIRIT for the CAI testing it came back with the exhaust system all misaligned after it was de-installed for stock exhaust testing and then re-installed. I did the best that I could to at least get the tips semi-level for the SPIRIT's appearance at the charity car show... But the Magnaflow guys took a look at the wacky alignment and did it up right for me. Those guys really do take great pride in their work, and it is very refreshing and extremely satisfying. They're great!

I assume that you had some REAL choice words for the CAI guys, huh?

Nah, they're good people, too. The trick, according to Richard at Magnaflow, is to hang the exhaust with everything real loose, line up the back the way it should be, then begin tightening everything down from the back going forwards.

If they just took it off and stuck it back on, once the front was lined up they probably didn't even look at the back to notice it was cock-eyed.

No problem. All better now. No harm done.

Again, okay. I can only imagine all the pressure you are having to suffer under. I was just trying to help.

Should be out in January. When does the season start?

I'd gladly loan you mine, but I think snaponbob has already called "Shotgun!" and if he didn't get it first he'd probably interpret "Shotgun!" to mean what he would then use on me.
