Redline Performance

I will hopefully be owning one of these cars relatively soon, but I wanted to ask a few questions regarding modifications before I make the plunge (if I should do so)... Also keep in mind I am a complete noob at cars that have less than 4 cylinders, lol.
  1. Are there any quality (Kooks, Stainless Works, etc...) long tube header(s) made for these cars?
  2. Are there any cam(s) being offered for these cars (I assume its DOHC)?
  3. I'm not REAL big on aftermarket exhausts (but I do love my corsa), so how well does the stock exhaust flow? I have always expected little to no gains from cat back only, but if I am going to add cam's (if any are being made), and header(s), than I would like to know how restrictive the stock exhaust is.
  4. I know, I could go down the LS2/LS3 road, however; I already have a stout V8 and am looking to go down the turbo 4 road, so i'd like to keep those two variables. That said, how much power can this 4 cylinder handle? Bigger turbo and more boost with some cams and header(s), would pushing 400rwhp be out of this engines league?
I already like these cars quite a bit and would really like to learn more, but these are just a few things that I have that would help with the purchase.

Thanks everyone

1. theres no headers on a turbocharged engine, its a small exhaust manifold and so far no one makes any. Its not like you need one anyway unless you're upgrading to a bigger turbo.
2. no cams either, mainly because our cam drives the high pressure fuel pump with a 3-lobed gear built into it.
3. stock exhaust is 2.5" with a restrictive muffler, a 3" exhaust with a free flowing muffler seems to be the sweet spot.
4. the engine is solid and will support over 400rwhp, problem is the ecm is a bit complicated and theres no software to fully control it yet making turbo upgrades a bit of a pain.

As stated above, you need to think different about you Engine Mods with a High output 4 like the Ecotec. With that said, it is better to get the NA SKY with the non-Turbo 2.4L engine and upgrade from there. Hahn Turbos are available and there are Supporting Vendors who have gotten the type of Horsepower you are talking about, with 0-60 times down in the 3's. Crazy if you ask me, because the car with the Stage 2 Upgrade coming from GM (under $1000.00 upgrade from the Redline) will produce around 300HP with an upgraded exhaust and give you estimated 0-60 times Under 5 seconds.

Unless you plan on racing it, this is a great convertible cruiser with plenty of balls to show up 90% of the Ricers out of the Box and still carry a warrantee.

But to each his own, here is a couple of things for you to check out:

2.4GTS: Building Brutus...

Race Precision 2.4GTs

Keep in mind also, when you buy the NA SKY to upgrade you sacrifice the Traction Control for everyday driving as well as many other Appearance and Comfort upgrades.

Good Luck and Welcome to the SKY!

Hey guys, I appreciate the information. As I said I don't know much about 4 cylinder, or turbo cars in general. I quite like the Redline so I would most likely start there, and just try and be patient with upgrades. That said, I'm sure HPTuners is working diligently to get a version out that will work on the 2.0 (on the website it already says it is supported so i'd just need to buy the credit for it).

Since the cars are so new, I say in the next year or two we'll have some awesome engine mods (cams being one of said mods).

From the header standpoint, keep in mind the engine exhaust is married to the turbo through a dual scroll design, with 1&4 running a different path to the turbo than 2&3 This, in turn, is married to the variable valve timing which is adjusted via solenoids on the cams...all managed by the ECM.

The reason there aren't many (any?) after market headers or cams for these items on the turbo is the current package is pretty tightly coupled, so changing one item will quickly cascade into the need to change another...and another....and another.
