short thorw shifter

do anyone make an aftermarket short throw shifter for the rls? i dont want the shifter itself shorter, just the throws. my buddy got one for his xrunner and i like the way it feels when putting it in gear and how solid it feels when its in gear. i dont think our shifters can go much lower, maybe 1" at the most before you start hitting your hand on the console but i dont need the shifter shorter, just the throws. i think it would be awesome.

thats cool but i want shorter, stiffer throws. with that all it does at the most is lower it .5" and displaces the weight more towards the shift nob rather than the shaft. although it will technically be shorter it wont be any tighter.

i must disagree. i have the JPM shifter and the way it is shorter and weighted it is alot tighter and crisper. You are more connected to the gears as the stock shifter is a numbing stub of metal. My friend has a zr1 and it shifts more like his. I think it is great and i definitely recommend it.

If you get a heavy aftermarket knob with a deep thread you'll get the same effect as the jpm shifter. But rich71 is right you cant get a short throw shifter because the pivot points are inside the tranny.

how hard is the install for the jpm and dont you have to send in the shift boot or the ring around the boot so they can custom fit it?

VERY Easy to install. Yes you must send in the trim rings for custom fitting of the boot. The chrome trim piece pries up and unsnaps and then you can remove the inner ring that the boot is glued onto. You then send the rings to jpm for fitting and you get it back with the boot mounted on the rings, along with the shaft and knob. The shaft is only attached by one allen key. SLide the boot over the new shaft, bolt the shaft down, snap the ring in place, spin the knob on and you are pretty much done. It literally took me 7 minutes to remove the boot, and about 15 minutes to install everything once i got it back. I was even able to peel the stock boot off the rings and drive around with the stock boot and shifter while i was waiting for the JPM. You wont believe how heavy the stock shifter is. The JPM is lighter but weighted more efficiently and is a little shorter. This gives you more feel and connects you to the car. It is crisper and more deliberate. It is unreal how much the chunky stock shifter takes away from the experience. The is the best buy for your shifting pleasure. The linkage is all internal, so the only change you can get is the shift are and boot. And it surprisingly make a bigger impact than you would think.

I had Eloy shorten my shifter to shorten the throw. The throw just felt long to me. Makes a huge difference IMO and feels just right. Guess it's one of those things that once you feel it, ya wonder how you did without it. Driving Brutus, RPi's project car, keyed me in on this.

I didn't like the feel of the original shifter so I made my own and put a Hurst shifter ball on it. Because of the way you hold a ball shifter compared to the standard shift knob and the bend I put in the shaft, the shifter throw and feel is a whole lot better and feels shorter.

so are you just sending in the chrome ring or is there another ring that you also send too? is there another ring under the boot that you cant see that you need to send in is what im asking.

Yes, there are two rings. A chrome outer one and a black inner one. The inner one needs to be modified to have the leather boot fit since it is thicker than the OEM vinyl boot.

Shifters are running behind though at this point. Delivery points have been stretched past the 3 week mark unfortunately. I'm trying to get them out faster though.

Does anyone have some pics of the JPM performance shifter installed in their sky? I'm interested, but at the price I'm real interested in how it looks and how much it will change the feel when everything is all said and done.
