Thinking about buying a sky and sending it to mallett...

Okay, so I have a few questions that I will post on here before I call them tomorrow. I was wondering if y'all think that their prices on their website are firm? I was wanting to do the LS7 conversion or the LS7TT conversion. But honestly, I want to know what the HELL makes it $53,000-83,000 MORE, not including the sky. What could possibly make it that much?

So, what I was really wondering, what are the chances if I call and tell them I am seriously interested that they will charge those prices. I mean, if I did do the LS7tt, it would cost MORE than my f*cking M6 convertible!!! I just want everything broken down price wise.

Thanks for all y'alls help.

Matthew Haynes

Everything is negotiable!!! I say that package is way overkill, but if you have the cash, go for it...

That package would blow your M6 out of the water!!

There is (or was - I haven't been there in a while) a pretty extensive breakdown of the different packages on the Mallett website.

I have the LS2 package, and it is plenty for me. 400HP in this car is more than enough. If you feel you need the LS7, go ahead. You must really be a speed freak!

I will say this, though. Mallett is a quality operation. The workmanship is top notch, and they stand behind what they do.

I just had mine in a show here today, and took 2nd place in my class. Everyone was blown away, and had to be reminded that it was an aftermarket mod - they all thought it was a factory install, because it looked so perfect.

PM me if you want more info...

Yeah, I saw all that break down, but to me, I don't see it adding up to $80,000+ in modifications. Shoot, my Supra which had 900hp, I spent probably $25,000. And that's upgrading EVERYTHING known to man. haha.

I used to have a C6 Z06, and I just want something different that no one has. A LS7 Sky would def be it. Anyway, do you have any videos of your car in action? Would LOVE to hear and see it.

Also, can you PM and give me an estimate of what I am looking to spend with your setup...Thanks so much in advance.

If you really intend to add another 50K+ I would suggest that a Vette Z06 might make more sense.

I would like to see someone come up with the old 3.8 L V6 torbo they put in the Buick Grand Nationall back in 1987. it was the fastest production car in the US, and that car was a lot bigger then the Sky.

Well, Mhaynes772 is right IMO. HOWEVER, I just can't see sinking 80K on a 30K car, I don't care who makes it. Also to give credit, it WOULD probably be the hottest sky on da planet--assuming it would even be drivable--Which after reading all the options on mallets web page would be an incredible one-of-a-kind----sorta like a royal flush car--when was the last time you got one playing poker?? eh? huh?

I will say this tho, if ya gots da doe, don't complain, either pull the trigger or fade away, I would not spend that kind of doe to upgrade a sky to that level. At that point I would get its BIG brother loaded to the gills and modify the hell outa that--NOW that would be a "monster car" ---aye matey--

That was in 1987 - I think the Redline would beat it today...

I think looking at the list of parts put into the conversions, it would be hard to find 50-80K worth of upgrades. Now, think about how many conversions they've done/will do, and factor in the amount of time and labor they put in to develop the kit along with the time and labor it takes to install it. If you figure that each and every person who gets this conversion done is going to share in the R&D cost as well, it kinda starts to add up, to me at least. I think for the money, you could have an 800hp Z06, or a 900-1000whp Supra, or any number of things. But, when was the last time you saw the sky (which is an amazing looking roadster) with over 400hp WITHOUT touching the engine in the car (not including PUTTING the engine in the car, lol)? I think you could get the LS2 or even LS7, and eventually modify the engine from there yourself for less of a cost.

If you got the money to do this, why not just get the LS2 into the Sky, and spend the extra money on an Ariel Atom. Having a 400hp sky for cruising and fun and the Atom for track days would be something unbelievable. I would want both if I had the money (hell, I want both even without the money). Sorry, i would even do without the M6 (but not if I had the money for all 3).

Sorry bout the long post.

Just wondering about the handling after the Mallett mods. The stock GXP and RL are a little heavy in the front. I'd like to hear from someone who has actually had the conversion done.

BTW, I have a friend who had a Cadillac Northstar V-8 installed in his Pontiac Fiero. It was really quick, but the handling was scary. Of course it was rear-engined and heavy in the rear. He finally sold it. I'm sure Mallett is a lot more sophisticated than the company that modified the Fiero.
