Wind noise
I have had my car to the dealer now on 4 different occations regard wind noise while the top is up.
Normally I would expect a certain amount being a convertaible, but mine is certainly excessive. So far they have changed the window seals and tried manual adjustments but have only seemed to make it worse. They claim that there is adjustment rods and other points they can adjust to try and seal it up better... That being said has anyone else had problems with theres? |

I know first hand what you are going thru. I had mine to the dealer for the same problem. They made some adjustments, it is better but still have some noise. I am hoping at the Mecca II tour the techs there can solve this problem. Take it back till they fix it. Good Luck![]() "The Sky's The Limit"

I used to have allot of noise. But someone on here pointed out that there are little tabs that you have to make sure line up where the butresses hit the body behind the window. They are little hook like do higgies. Make sure they are in by pulling the butress frame forward, then lock down the top up front. See if this helps. You probably have no idea what I am trying to describe.

I recall seeing a thread somewhere that mentioned that you could actually adjust the window itself to fix the noise. If I remember right you can adjust the window up/down, front to back, or in and out. I have no idea how to make those adjustments though. I was actually thinking about this earlier because I have a slight wind noise on mine and would like to try to fix it by adjusting the window. If anyone can find these instructions I'd be eternally grateful!!

Drivers side.
I have had mine in 4 times when I first got my car. I gave up. Now when I put the top up & I put the lock into place, at the same time I pull the roof at the rear of the window & make sure the little tab is in place. I then close the drivers window & then the passengers. It is the best that I can do. It is not nearly as bad. Then I crank up the tunes. |

The feedback Im getting from the dealership is thats the best they can get....they wanted me to take it 4 hrs outside of where i live to this shop that another dealership uses that specialize with rag tops.....but I told them to forget it.
Im not sure what to do....If I was to force the issue of a new roof, Im sure I may be able to get it....but Im just affraid that it would be the same or worse. Why do we have to worry about this stuff when we buy brand new? Thanks for your replys |

The shop manual includes the procedures for adjusting the window. If you look at the bottom of your door, you will see a removable plate. Its toward the bottom front of the door. This gives access to an adjustment screw that will change the tilt angle of the top of the window. Turn it one way and the top moves away from the top. Turn it the other way and the top of the window moves in toward the top.
There are also other adjustment points for up and down but you need to remove the door panel to get at them. Personally i would not recommend that for an inexperienced person as you will invariably damage one or more of the retainers and have fun getting everything back together. There are a ton of adjustments on both the doors, the glass and the top. you just have to be willing to find them and then take the risk of changing something that may or may not make things better. |

I too have had noise problems, along with several attempts by the dealer to repair them. (A long story)
Short story - how to find and maybe fix them yourself: Close the windows, turn the heater blower on max, get outside and try to find out where the air comes out. Then look back and forth at both doors/windows, looking for symmetry or lack thereof. I found one rubber seal not firmly straddling the metal 'lip' of the top frame and was able to fix it, reducing the noise greatly. I still have some minor leaks on both sides and plan to find an old stethoscope to help find the leaks I can't find by ear or fingers. I'm optimistic that I will be able to reduce the noise some more, using that technique. Earlier I used several layers of black electrical tape on the edge of the window glass where it was leaking - it works, and doesn't show, normally. At any rate, the Sky is a LOT quieter than my Z-3 was. Good luck at reducing your 'noise pollution'. Bo |

I got my car back from the dealership for the 4th time and still no resolve.
They say they have exhausted all adjustments and cant get ride of the remainder wind noise.(nature of the beast) was there comment. The nose comes from just behind the drivers seat, and you can see how there is a quater inch of window that doesnt seat on the seal properly. They almost need to adjust the window position , but they are affraid of making it worse on other areas of the seal. |
