Dealer Markup?
Hi everyone. Been lurking here for a while and I have a question. Are folks still paying over sticker for a '07 Redline? I have a chance to get one that someone backed out of the deal but the dealer is still asking for a significant dealer markup.
Thanks |

I'm in South Mississippi and I checked with the three dealers closest to me. One in Mississippi, Lousiana and Alabama. All of these dealers were selling the Skys at MSRP with no mark-up and no unwanted accessories added on. I ordered my '08 Redline from the dealer in MS and I'm paying sticker price plus $189.00 standard dealer fees and tax. Having said that, there are people on this forum who have reported paying more than list price. I think it depends on where you live and the demand in that area.

Welcome To the Forum!!
No way!! I walked away from a SOL deal that they wanted 5K over MSRP. There is a Saturn dealer in around your area that also charges over MSRP. We told them where to go. Some people are willing to over pay just to get one, I will not. My Saturn dealer charges MSRP, but you gotta order it and wait in line. But it's an individual choice if you want to give them money "for nothing"--BTW, welcome to the forum--My dealer is in Pembroke Pines--

Seriously though, there are I think 6 Saturn dealers around the south florida area. 3 are under one ownership, the other 3 are under another ownership. Even so, the one I initially went to tried to nail me with a 3K markup. I ended up paying an 800.00 markup. I then went to another dealer under the same ownership (the one midniteblues mentioned) and it was a completely different story. No markup, no BS, just sticker plus their standard dealer fee. At one point I called the coconut creek one and they quoted me a ridiculous price for a redline they had in stock. After my experience with the first dealer I went to, I ran the other way. If you absolutely must have the car now, then pay the markup but I'd suggest going to the dealer midniteblues mentioned and ordering one. PM me if you want more info about them. |

"standard dealer fee" ?
Sounds like dealer markup to me. Putting the word "standard" in front of it doesn't make it right.

Nah, most dealers have a dealer fee they claim covers paperwork and administrative costs and other such BS that in my opinion is nothing more than a standard cost of doing business. They're just found a creative way to get the customer to pay for it along with making some profit on it. I've seen it vary from 50 bucks to 500 bucks depending on the dealer. |

mbeardsley, you might be correct in calling the "standard or DOC fee" dealer markup, and I agree. My point is that this is a fee that is pre-printed on the sales work sheet and applies to all cars, not just Skys. By the way, I worked in the car business for 15 plus years and so I know dealers of nearly every brand in my area, I never have to pay more that $500 over invoice (dealer cost not MSRP) and even with this agreement they all always add the DOC fee. It can range from $50 to $300 depending on the dealership. So in the context of mark-up over MSPR for "market adjusted value" as they like to call it, this fee is not "mark-up".

Hi all. Just got my new sky about a week ago from the dealer in Pembroke Pines. I ordered mine in May and got her much earlier than expected but was pleasantly surprised. And the "buying" experience was just about the easiest I have encountered. We knew ahead of time that we had a wait in front of us, but as far as pricing goes no mark ups. Just the MSRP plus the few other options we ordered. I agree with one of the other posts.....walk or better yet run if any dealer is going to charge you more than the MSRP. Why pay more when there are so many other dealers out there that aren't ready to rip you off!
