Getting Your Saturn Sky Forum for discussing the process of ordering/tracking/buying your Saturn Sky. Ever wonder what a VOMS is? How about an "image", or how cars are allocated? The answer probably lies within.

End of August Programs!! WOW

Well guys, you'll see it on TV Tuesday night if you watch the Olympics, but here is a little heads-up if you've been waiting to pull the trigger on that certain Sky you’re eying.

Employee Price for Everyone on all 2008's

plus

$500 off (at least in this region)
OR
Not-so-special interest rates (may also be a little different in your region)

If you're not normally eligible for the GMS discount you may use money from almost any of the GM cards, however; if you ARE normally eligible for the GMS discount you may only use a limited dollar amount from only one of the cards (cannot recall which one at the moment). You MUST disclose if you’re normally eligible and follow the normal GMS authorization number procedure. If you don't, you will lose your GMS purchasing privileges for a couple years—GM does check, so I wouldn’t try it. This was a big problem for people three years ago.

This is a strong program and makes the Sky an even better value!!

"Employee discounts generally are 10% below the invoice price but vary by model."

GM to offer employee pricing to everyone - Aug. 18, 2008

I don't know where CNN gets it's information from but GMS has never been 10% below invoice. Maybe they meant to say 10% below MSRP but that wouldn't be accurate either ...

Here is one example of actual GMS pricing on a Redline SKY.

MSRP - $32,770

GMS - $29,890.10

Regardless - this is a great deal on the SKY the only challenge is inventory levels are low limiting selection. If money is more important that getting the exact color you want I'd definately say take advantage of this opportunity.

I understand it's a tough market but they are destroying the values of cars of the people who waited 6 months to a year for delivery.

I ordered a Redline in January of '07 and it was delivered as one of the first '08's on July 14. To go from a waiting list to giving them away with rebates and 0% financing in the same model year is insane.

Well GM is hemoraging cash! what would you want them to do?
Pretend everything is good and like Dorothy from the Wizzard of Oz, just click her heels three times and wish everything was better?

I'm sure someone more financially savvy than me has looked at this, but the last time they played this game the post-sale suffering was significant for them:

USATODAY.com - Car sales suffer from employee-discount hangover

GM Reaches Agreement With UAW - Los Angeles Times

The second article is shocking, as it reads about the same as current articles and shows how ineffective GM's changes have been at actually fixing their bottom line.

Why not, they have been doing it for years between the UAW, Delphi and GMAC mortgage.

I've never seen a situation where deeply discounting the price of something ever solved a cash flow problem in business, it's a short term solution to a much larger problem that remains and will get worse.

I believe the Corvette is still excluded from those discounts.

The handy-dandy pricing widget ...

GM Employee Discount

... say Z06 (3LZ) goes from about ~$78K to ~$67K (before options). Maybe dealer participation is optional though.(?)
