Getting Your Saturn Sky Forum for discussing the process of ordering/tracking/buying your Saturn Sky. Ever wonder what a VOMS is? How about an "image", or how cars are allocated? The answer probably lies within.

Found a used Redline, seeking opinions

So I have been wanting a Sky for roughly a year now and have been looking for a Redline preferably in black with black/red, auto, and monsoon. While color was a huge deal at one point, it's not quite that bad anymore. Just not yellow

Buying new is a wonderful prospect, but if I can save a little money and get something certified pre-owned, then why the heck not?

I found this today...

2008 Saturn SKY Red Line Silver Roadster. A Saturn SKY at Saturn of Tempe Tempe AZ

Can some nice people take a look and see if that's a justifiable price? What would be more reasonable? Should I not look at used?

The great thing about these cars for owners is the really high resale value. The bad thing about these cars for buyers, they have a really high resale value. Most cars are a good buy at 10,000 - 20,000 miles. On this car especially, I would stay with a new one. Your saving a couple bucks, but who knows how badly they beat the car up. And yea, it may be under warrantee, but who need the aggravation. It's a no brainer for me....either spend 90% of sticker on a used 10,000 mile, potential beat on car or spend 100% of sticker on a new cherry car ............. I go for the cherry new car

You may want to check your local dealer, I believe there is a $1000.00 factory incentive and 2.9% financing on new GM vehicles right now. That would sweeten the deal.

How often do you buy a new car???? Get exactly what you want!

Pricing on a used SKY is heavily dependent on how well it was taken care of, and what kind of miles were put on it. Personally, for the difference, I would go with new. I don't want the aggravation of properly checking out a used car, and like the peace of mind of new.

But if you do buy used, you probably know the need to really check it out. Here are some things to check closely:

1. Maintenance Record.
2. Brakes.
3. Tires.
4. Top.
5. Underneath
6. Paint
7. Fit

1. At 10000 miles it probably should have had Maintenance I and II. Hopefully through a dealer where you can verify it was performed properly.

2. Look for excessive brake wear.

3. Are the tires stock? How is the tread? Is wear even? Saving 3000 on the sticker begins to wear thin if you have to fork over a $1000 for new tires within a few months.

4. Check all the joints/gaskets/fabric for tears/rips/wear. Check locking mechanism for damage. Perform a water/leak test.

5. You must put it up on a lift and check EVERYTHING underneath. Look for curb strike damage on front fender and strikes in general underneath.

6. Look closely for nicks dings scratches...touch up paint. Color match?

7. Check all body panel alignment (this is a good idea on a new car too!).

I guess I could go on. Checking out a used car...especially a performance car....takes a lot of attention to detail and knowledge of what to look for. If you feel comfortable...or even relish putting hands all over the car for insepection.....and everything passes with flying colors...then the price of this car is reasonable from a dealer. If you don't want to go to all that trouble, or if anything is amiss, go new.

All I can say is I detest Saturn of Tempe with the passion of 1000 fiery suns. There are exactly 2 people working there that are not completely worthless. Good luck.

I Bought mine used (9000 Mi) still smelled new !! local orginal purchase
and local trade Then it was all mine
ALL CHECKED OUT only item was rear diff seal recall and dealer fixed within 3
days of my purchase.
Question... How many of first time buyers have had NEW SKY'S back to dealer allready? even new sometimes has issues.
I't just depends on personal preference and finding a really good well taken care of vehicle . New or used Always look closely
All aftermarket mods were mine ,was stock when i got it.

Good observation about the exhaust. Appears to be a Magnaflow. No way of knowing 2.5" or 3". The real question is whether you want an automatic or not. Watch out for "doc fees" and other garbage that may get tacked on. Hard to "shop" a used car.

Word of caution. There have been some brake system changes on the 2008 turbos that are causing some real issues. DOT is starting to look into it. Also, tire pressure sensors, while a good thing, can create some problems with mount/dismount at less than competent/honest tire dealers. I have heard some real horror stories in the KC area from friends with first hand stories.

Think about a low mileage 2007 to avoid those two issues. Just my

I'd say pass on it, find something new...like 30 miles on it.

Mine had 300 dealer miles on it an so far it been in the shop a third of the short time I've had it.

I'm surprised no one noticed that this RedLine has the standard SKY tires (Eagle RSA's) instead of the Eagle F1's...

And as someone already noticed, the odometer was set up for KM and C* instead of miles and F*...

Looks like it has a Magnaflow but impossible to tell from the pics we have...

BA...

Well, it seems this is some kind of FrankenSky. I decided to steer clear and just get a brand new one.

I have a 2008 redline Sky with Monsoon, auto. It is black with tan leather accent. It was flooded in New Mexico.(rain water) Water did not get into dash. It messed up the BCM module. I dad the engine and transmission flushed and there was no sign of water. Any way car runs good and everything works. It only has 2300 miles. I am going to put it up for sale next week. If you interested I can send you some pictures.
