Latest News: Is there hope for me?
Well all, I couldn't sleep tonight, so I might as well post something...
I have some "relatively" good news for...well, mostly for me, but I wanted to share, so that you could all hit me with a reality check. The good news is that I've just been promoted to Senior Developer at work, and will be jumping pay brackets with the classification change. I also need not worry about my MCAD\MCSD for a while now either. It is not required until the next step up in the developer career path / food chain at work now. The bad news is my dear friend and manager was let go a few weeks ago, to be replaced next day by a "manager with more development experience." Unfortunately, my promotion is fresh on the heels of that event and I'm quite certain the promotion is not entirely merit-based. With the pay jump being considerable...I'll be able to pay down the home improvements AND possibly order my redline in the very near future. I'm hopeful...but must keep a level head. I will find out this week, exactly how much of a raise I'm getting. Then must recalculate all the budgets to make sure everything will get paid off appropriately first. If there is enough positive monthly cash flow left over to make the payment on a SKY RL...then you can count me in. I don't know what y'all do for luck, but if you could throw a little my way...I could sure use something to look forward to. Thanks in advance!

"dear friend and manager was let go a few weeks ago"
Now that is the person who could use someone's lucky rabbit's foot.
Were they able to retire or are they struggling to find their next job? Oh, congratulations on your good fortune!

He's a smart cookie, he's got plenty socked away for a rainy day, and we believe his severance package will be considerable as well. Right now he is still reeling and trying to recover from the shock of it all, as are all of us at the office. This guy put in an easy 70-80 per week, and was always looking out for the best interests of the customer AND his team. I would go so far to say that he is the best department manager and project manager I've ever had the privilege of working for/with. Once he gets his legs back, I'm sure he'll have no problem finding a new gig. In the meantime, my heart really goes out to him. The way my company let him go was damn cold, and very uncharacteristic of them. No warning, no "hey, we need more from your position." Just a "hey, you're done here, the bigger, better, faster you, starts tomorrrow, have a nice life."

Mine and many of my co-worker's minds in fact. I mean if they were willing to just cut bait with my manager, one has to wonder what else they are capable of rationalizing?? It makes for a very stressful workplace at least until the dust settles.

Just an update...
Well, still haven't gotten to hear about what the new rate of compensation will be. Keeps getting pushed back...
Makes me worry...but they assure us it will be back paid to June 1st once in effect. That'll be a nice little bonus and make the ordering deposit easy if need be... Supposedly I'm going to find out early this coming week...so Monday or Tuesday I guess. I'm quite anxious, but only because my wife keeps asking me about it. I patiently wait...sort of...ok...not really, but not like I have a choice... ![]()

Keep in mind that they DID do this and WILL do it again. The best thing you can do is be prepared. Keep a savings account so you can live for several months if need be. Don't forget about that retirement plan too. And aside from money, always, always have a backup plan (ie; fresh resume and know who's doing what in your industry).
Whether you get a Red Line or not, good luck!!

Don't have any lucky rabbits feet in Memphis but do have armadillo on the halfshell. Skip, being from Alabama, I love your sense of humor.
