Procedure for *** PRICE PROTECTION ***

OK, recently I had posted the new Price Protection document from GM; see the quote below for reference.

Now I wanted to tell you how it will need to be set up by your Retailer for the Price Protection to apply.

Now, this doesn't mean that if you have picked up your SKY between Oct. 1st and today that there will be a problem, you will not have a problem, the Retailer may have a problem if they didn't follow the correct procedure and get audited, which can happen every month.

Here is the the way it is supposed to be done:
  • The Contract / Bill of Sale / Record of Purchase will show the FULL Price of the SKY as it is stated on the Window Sticker and on the invoice + any Retailer Add + Tax, Tag, Dealer Fees, etc.
  • The Price Protection (if applicable) will need to be included in there as a REBATE and the appropriate form printed and signed by the buyer.

This way the retailer provides you with the Price Protection you are entitled to and at the same time it protect themselves against an overzealous Regional Manager's audit.

PLEASE, read the text in the quote below for any questions on Price Protection. This topic has been discussed here at length and this thread is an attempt to familiarize you, the buyer with the actual process that should be followed to assure all goes smoothly.

A PRICE PROTECTION CREDIT IS ISSUED TO CUSTOMERS FOR ELIGIBLE GM CARS AND LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS AFFECTED BY AN INTERIM PRICE INCREASE, EXCLUDING THOSE ITEMS REFERENCED IN THE VEHICLE TERMS OF SALE BULLETIN.

IMPORTANT PROGRAM NOTES:


-CUSTOMER ORDER DATE MUST BE PRIOR TO THE PRICE INCREASE EFFECTIVE DATE (I.E., IF PRICE INCREASE DATE IS ON THE 2ND OF THE MONTH, CUSTOMER ORDER DATE MUST BE NO LATER THAN THE 1ST OF THE MONTH).

-THE PRODUCTION DATE OF THE VEHICLE MUST BE ON OR AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE PRICE INCREASE.

-THE VEHICLE MUST BE DELIVERED TO THE CUSTOMER WHO ORDERED THE UNIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER DEALER RECEIPT.


3. PROGRAM TIME PERIOD (DELIVERED):
OCTOBER 1, 2006 THROUGH OCTOBER 1, 2007

4. ELIGIBLE MODELS:
REFER TO DIVISIONAL PRICE INCREASE NOTIFICATION.

NOTE: PRICE PROTECTION IS PAID AUTOMATICALLY AT DELIVERY TIME.

9. OTHER PROGRAM GUIDELINES:
A. PROTECTION ELIGIBILITY DATES ARE DICTATED BY THE CUSTOMER AND DEALER ORDER DATES AS FOLLOWS:
-CUSTOMER ORDER DATE MUST BE PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE PRICE INCREASE.
-DEALER SYSTEMS ORDER DATE MUST BE NO MORE THAN ONE WORK DAY AFTER THE DATE OF THE PRICE INCREASE.


I. PRICE PROTECTION MUST BE REFLECTED ON BILL OF SALE AND CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND/OR ASSIGNMENT FORM IS REQUIRED.

10. GENERAL POLICY GUIDELINES:

B. GM RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL, AMEND, REVISE OR REVOKE ANY PROGRAM AT ANY TIME BASED ON ITS SOLE BUSINESS JUDGMENT. FINAL DECISIONS IN ALL MATTERS RELATIVE TO THE INTERPRETATION OF ANY RULE OR PHASE OF THIS ACTIVITY REST SOLELY WITH GM.

How do I know when my order went in?

My dealer never told me when the order was placed. I picked up my Redline today, and it was at the higher ($28,295) base price. I put in my deposit in May, and requested a change to Redline in June. Is there somewhere I can look up my vehicle's order history?

If they actually placed your order (as a preliminary order in the GM System) before the RedLine price increase that happened on 8/28 then you ARE Price Protected.

There is no place that you can go to check. Your dealer could give you a Event Code History for your Order # but, if they didn't price protect you they may have not placed your order until they had an actual RedLine Allocation, which sucks!!!

Thanks for the quick response. I will ask my dealer tomorrow for the event code history. I have to believe my order went in before 8/28. My VIN is 5529.

I placed my order July 8th and received an order number the same month. The first event code I was given by my dealer was 3000 on September 2nd.
Do you think it would be wise to request a history? I am now at Produced with an expected delivery date the second week of December according to my dealer.

My order number is KJKCNV as of 8/14/06 1100, orginal write up was on 6/11/06 the RL was built of 11/3/06 does this mean it is price protected I am still awaiting delivery and would like to have this info inorder to protect from these price increases. Thankyou. VIN# 117538. Midnight Blue with cast chrome rims, car cover, mud flaps, license plate frame, locking gas cap, floor mats, car care kit, ashtray, emergency kit, 6 disk monsoon system, Leather seats (black), black top, spoiler. Thanks for all the info on this sight. Just waiting for that last code of 5000 and 6000.

Sky Spy - my salesman told me that I'm price protected, but I will be charged new price at time of pickup and that Saturn "mails me a check" for the difference. Is that true? Or should I be asking for it to show on the bill-of-sale? Don't want to pay 5% sales tax on an additional $1,500 when it's not needed.

A RedLine SKY will only be price protected from the date the original price was announced.

With that said, if you had a Preliminary Order for a RedLine prior to the price increase effective on 8/28/06 you will be price protected at this point for two different price increases, the initial one of $1,000 and tha last one of $130 for a total of $1,130.

The price protection is DONE AT THE TIME THE DEAL IS FINALIZED not later on as you have been wrongly told by your Retailer. Make sure you read well my post above and you will see what's needed...

If they are already telling you that you are price protected, I would ask for a Event Code History just for your own records...

I've had my RL on order since 6/28/06 and for at least a month i've been going round and round with my dealer. He politely insists there is no such thing as a Price Protection Program, so I decided to contact Saturn. I e-mailed them 11/14 and got my answer today. Not Good! Saturn claims there is no such thing as PPP. Can somebody help me find in writing either at GM or Saturn where there is a notice of the program. I have the posts about the proceedures, but that doesn't help when these people don't believe the program even exists. I guess the dealer has no interest in knowing about it if he gets to keep the extra $1,130! This is the most frustrating car purchase i've ever been through.

Let me clear something up...

The Retailers do not get any extra cash if they don't give you price protection.

This is what gets me mad. The Retailer doesn't gain anything, nor looses anything by claiming or not claiming the Price protection for the customer. What I'm saying is that GM doesn't allow the Retailers to "steal" the Price Protection from the customer; it's all worked in the deal. Without proof, the Retailer can not collect on the Price Protection, if they do, as soon as they get audited, they will get a deduction from GM on the Price Protection. Very simple.

I'm so mad that some of this Retailers are so freaking clueless about this. It is so simple. And there is so little interest in their part to "fix this."

If i orderd a REDLINE .. on aug 14th. I have no word yet from my dealer when my ' order ' will be placed.. they told me .. i was PRICE PROTECTED ..then ..now however they tell me ..that if my REDLINE comes in as an 'O8 model.. i am NOT protected? is this true ?

That is correct!!! You are only price-protected within the Original Model Year. If your order doesn't come in as an 07' the you will be responsible for any increase for your 08' SKY.

That's just the way it works!!!
