Reasons to wait for a 2009 model?

Still lurking & researching ...

I read the thread on the new 2009 options and colors - nothing I really need.

However, I'm more concerned if I should hold off for a 2009 Redline in case of any mechanical or reliability improvements. Is anyone aware of any changes in this area?

BTW - when should 2009 models start appearing on the lots?

Well, with some research I sorta answered one of my own questions:

"2009 Saturn Sky production starts on June 23, 2008"

Well if you don't already have one then you might be getting an '09 unless you get one within the next couple weeks/months.

Yes, June is when they start making the '09s, not sure how long it takes before they will start delivering them, maybe by September. I base this off the first model year were starting to be delivered in September.

So at this point, if you haven't already ordered you may be getting an '09. If you thinking of getting one off the lot then you can get an '08 but I think I would go ahead and get an '09 at this point.

It makes my '07 seem old now. It's not bad to have the latest and greatest as far as model years go.

My Sky RL was the first 08 ordered by my dealer. It was built on June 24, 07, shipped before July 4th but I didn't take delivery until July 26.

The '09's will probably start hitting the dealerships sometime in July.
That is when the '08's started coming in last year.

2009 Sky's

My Wife is looking at a black R/L on the show room floor now. It is a 08 but the saleman told me there is serious rumor that the next round of invoices, which could be the 09's are going up by almost $4000.00! You might want to ask your dealer to see if he/she has heard anything about that.

Smalldealer just posted the Solstice '09 price increase. GXPs will go up $325. I wouldn't Sky pricing to stay in line with the GXP.

Price increase

Well that sounds way better. Maybe he meant to say 400 instead of 4000.
You know with the economy the way it is car sales are down and they really want to sell some

Good inputs.

Waiting would give me time to sell my motorcycle and free up space in the garage. And I do like the new red. Maybe I should see what the wait is on a special order - I think the red with tan top would be nice.

But I'm in Seattle and hate to waste any of the summer. Decisions!

I drove my daughter's Honda 2000 on Father's day, just to see if the excitement of driving a roadster was still there - it was. Same excitement as a dog sticking his head out the car window, except I got to shift.

Last sports car I owned was during college in the early 70's - a Triumph Spitfire. Talk about a hassle getting a top up & down.

As far as waiting for things to get better, it is a crap shoot. Those that waited for the 08's for them to work some bugs out wound up with a worse problem with the brake pumps. So you do not know.

I will mention that when we took the plant tour, our guide mentioned (due to a question I asked him) that they are buying out some early retirement to get rid of some higher paid employees to replace them with people making less than half of what they made. In my opinion that isn't going to help Kappa Build Quality and I worry about the future of these cars. After all it is all about how they are built and the parts they use.

If you are ready get one, if not then wait.

1st thing to do on the 09 R/L's, pop da hood and look for the "T"...

2nd thang to do, start the car and look at the gauges and the radio LED's in brite sunshine with the top down, can ya see anything?? ...

3rd thang to do, confirm #1, start the car and immediately back up and stomp on da brakes.. DID it stop before hitting the car behind ya? YES or NO??

If so, maybe buy the dang thing...

The only thing that caught my eye is the addition of Bluetooth.

For me, it wasn't enough to wait.

Here is another thing to consider
Saturn is giving either 1000 back or 5.9% financing to qualified buyers if you take delivery by the end of June.

So if you find one, like I did, on the lot, you can save cash if you move quick.

At this point in the game, I would wait for the 09 unless you get some major rebate or that special 3 grand deal.

Although you may be buying as a keeper, keep in mind that there is one years worth of depreciation difference between an 08 and an 09, even if you acquire the 08 within a month of acquiring the 09. Granted, you'll get points for low mileage on the 08, but it's still an 08.

The beauty of buying an 09 in July 08 is you can drive it for another year and a half and you're still driving a car with a year the same as the actual year. Psychologically, very satisfying.

Yes, June is when they start making the '09s, not sure how long it takes before they will start delivering them, maybe by September. I base this off the first model year were starting to be delivered in September.
I ordered my Redline in February of 2007, found out in April that it would probably be a 2008 model by the time it was built. Was built the last week of June and delivered to me on July 3. Unless you are in the far western part of the country there is only a few days worth of delivery time from build day.

My 2 cents.

It seems to me that the Carbon Flash edition may have a different sequence in the VIN. I may have to do some research, but considering we JUST got them..and they are listed as 2008 models which are about to be put out to pasture in favor of the 2009...the last 4 should be higher then 1119.

I'm a Tech, not into VIN research as much as some of you are. Thoughts from the forum?

Kappas merged VINs after the first Sky year, so you'll have to look beyond the last 4 digits.

There was/is a reason it is called WICKED....be foolish. It is your money. I can tell u that at least 99.9999% would have traded their cars in at that moment if they could. Seeing it was magical.

The closest i have seen to that color is on the new Lexus.
