some big decisions, baseline or red line!
hey guys, just like the other young fellow here i am going to be getting a new car. unlike him though, i will be getting a sky. i am just stuck between getting a baseline manual or a red line.
i will also be getting the 07 model. i have an 03 honda civic si that i will be trading in. i will probably be getting in the neighborhood of 7-8 thousand for it. then i will be adding about 3 thousand for the down payment. so since i will be putting down a 12000 down payment on it. what do you think the apr and monthly payments would be for either a baseline or red line. i have attached two cars just as an example. baseline Cars For Sale: Car Details - AutoTrader.com red line Cars For Sale: Car Details - AutoTrader.com by the way, what do you guys think is a good price to pay on a 07 manual baseline with no big upgrades and a 07 red line manual with also no big upgrades? also, i am 21, live at home with no rent, college student, and am making about 1500 a month part time. i am going to graduate in december and already have been offered a job. it is the current position i am in too, and for edison ( the electric company) so it is about 90% certain. any of you guys know of any good deals? i would appreciate some replies as i also just want to get to know the locals around here. ive been a lurker for long enough now as you can see from my join date. thanks!!! Well since you are young and you like driving probably i would totally choose the Redline.........Im 25 and own one and i have no regret and would not go back to buy de baseline model........
Nothing against it but the style of the redline to my eyes is so much better and for a everyday driver is better. You need to push less the revolution to get to your speed and its a more enjoyable experience to my eyes.... But those 2 are great price!

I would get the REDLINE!! Those 85 extra horses are really FUN, ask me I've driven over 43,000 miles on mine.
My concern would be the insurance and that depends on your driving record, your location, and even your credit score. Compare and shop around for both insurance and financing. At the end of the day though, GET THE REDLINE and BE SAFE |

Since you are coming from a CIVIC SI ,, then get the R/L. I bet you like when that VTEC kicks in at the end of your RPM range. The turbo kicks in at 2500RPM and stays flat and pulls through out the range..so you'll love the feel of the Redline.

we had an r&d at our venue for tri-state dealers and spoke to a Saturn tech and an independent tech. Really picked the brain of the IT who also showed me and let me feel for myself all the capabilities of the RL. Both advised going with the RL and i'm happy i did.
unless you're into tinkering on your ride (and not sure how modifications would affect warranty) RL all the way ... |

but those are off my record now. i need to get some insurance quotes though. just for my information though. how much more will a turbo convertible be opposed to just a convertible regarding insurance? obviously there are alot of factors, but what would be a ball park estimate? |

I checked with my insurance company (Geico) when I was thinking of trading mine for a Redline and there was no difference in the premiums. Good luck!

so i just checked on what my premiums would be and to go to a honda civic si to a sky red line, it would be a 1$ increase in the premium... ha
and to go from the civic to the sky, it would be a 30$ decrease. i have no idea why, but i wasn't going to argue!!! great news so far. |

Get the redline unless you plan on upgrading to the Mallet.
The Redline will have upgrades out that will push it's power much higher than with the Supercharger or turbo charged, even changing internals for much less than the cost as well. The RL will hold a higher value for the life of the car. Plus it comes with better suspension and parts than the base. Looking at the prices the RL is a steal take it unless it has been wrecked. Also look in the For Sale section on this board there are a few available for sale at a great price.

Other reasons to go redline:
The speedo/tach backlight overlay (daylight conditions) is dark on light, versus the NA SKY light on dark. I've found former is easier to see in daylight. Electronic Stability Control (can't remember if this was standard on the NA 07 SKY??). ESC is a must if you like to investigate the limits of grip on those curves. Dual Exhaust. High(er) Performance Tires (if buying used, make sure you've got Eagle F1 GS-2 or better) As for insurance, of course the RL should be equal or less than the NA. After all, the RL displacement is 17% LESS than the NA SKY. ![]()

im in the same situation as you almost, living at home, ill be 21 end of this month, and im debating on which one to get, but at least my goal was to be able to pay it off as quick as possible so i can work on saving up for a house. I factored in that the redline is about 4k more for the options i want. that 4k can be used for a lot of things, and I dont really need ALL that speed, i just need it to be quick, and more importatnly handle well. Just my 2 cents, is to get the base
oh and i guess the reason I really dont need the extra power is because in 2 years or so, I'm going to get either a 04 Cobra Stang or a 04 Mach 1

Of course, you can upgrade the NA suspension and tires, and recoup the difference in dollar value, and maybe even do better than a stock RL in performance. On the other hand, if you plan on selling it in two years, the difference you save on NA uprgrades will probably be lost on the re-sale since performance upgrades will depreciate much faster than the stock RL equivalent.

I recently purchase the R/L and am very happy that I did. I put the extra money in because I don't like to "tinker" with my vehicles. Besides, when you are already putting so much money into it why do you want to mess with it?
Do the math (maybe Bogie can help, he's excellent at math) in the long run how much more will your payments be a month? For the extra $ a month get what you really want the R/L. |
