MASSC 2008 SKYLANDS RALLY - Perfect Together

MASC would like to invite all Solstice and Sky owners to join us for our 3rd Annual Regional Meet & Greet which will be held on the
Summer Solstice in the Skylands region of NJ. Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, 2008

Diane & I are planning the route & itinerary which includes (as a point of interest) NJ's very own "Solstice Stones" Tripod Rock at Pyramid Mountain. However, they are a mile inland so we don't know if anyone is going tot want to make this trek...

Quote:
Park personnel believe that Tripod Rock is glacial but their opinion about the two smaller ones is ambiguous. "We believe the Solstice Stones were placed there by Native Americans because it was probably a ceremonial site. The sun sets between those two rocks." The Solstice Stones each sit on three small rocks, forming small tripod rocks, just like the big one nearby. You can sit on a certain cleft rock behind the two Solstice Stones and watch the sun set between them on the summer solstice. The fourth tripod-in-the-making has one or two stones under it and appears to be waiting for a third to officially make it a tripod rock. The curious can take a park-run Summer Solstice Hike on June 21 from 7 to 9pm and watch the sun set. Registration and $3 required. Everyone should know these rocks exist in NJ.
You can expect an fun lunch at a cool drive in: Welcome to The Chatterbox Drive-In Web Site!!! an awesome route, visits to a few really good local wineries, dinner at the historic Walpack Inn: Picture Album - The Walpack Inn - Rustic Country Restaurant
and the best part: comaraderie.

We also plan on stopping at Wild West City for some shoot 'em up cowboy fun and an authentic group picture which will be submitted for the "western themed" 2009 Solstice/Sky National calendar. The calendar will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I'm negotiating the group admission since we won't be there all day. Right now, we plan to take the pictures between 9:45am and 10:30am; we may not be charged admission since it's being done before the doors open to the general public. Wild West City is over 50 years old and is styled after Dodge City, circa 1880. It looks old, it feels old and it is old, but I'm older. I just don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that it is a new style Disney type amusement park. It isn't.

Wild West City - Western theme park, amusement and educational center - Netcong, NJ

Friday night:
For those of us who are coming in Friday night, Diane suggests Pub 199 for dinner. It's right up the street from the hotel and her house.
Here's a web review: tommy:eats: Pub 199: Mt. Arlington, NJ

Update:
These are a few of the hotel choices in the Mt. Arlington area. (Two of them are right down the street from dengel's house!) I blocked off 10 rooms at the Holiday Inn for Saturday, 6/21 and Sunday 6/22. The hotel is newly renovated and the general manager Kevin Steib asks that reservations be made by June 5th. The price is discounted to $102 if you prepay. Mention MASSC if you call. Buffet breakfast is included. If you are a member with the Marriot chain, their hotel is right across the street.

We will be meeting in the Holiday Inn Express parking lot on Saturday morning 9am. We need to be at Wild West City by 9:30.

Sounds like Fun,

Count us in - Skyman-CT and Mrs Skyman-CT

Wild West City
If Mike gets to wear his Hop-A-Long Cassidy gun set do I get to wear my Daniel Boone Cap and carry my official Kentucky Long Riffle Cork Gun??

This reminds me of the good old days when my Aunt use to take us to FreedomLand and/or Frontier Town when we came up from Kentucky for summer vacation.
Rob Friedman has preserved some of those Freedomland memories and Steve Gross the Frontier Town ones.
Don't know either guys, but Thanks Rob and Steve if you ever get a Kappa Car maybe you'll read this.

Oh yeah, I can't wait to get a picture of the Sky between the Solstice Stones, hopefully we can park some place in view to get a camera shot.

Just found this link, oh well I guess I'll have to bring a die cast model up the trail and do some photo trickery.

A BIG maybe!

My pink handled six shooter comes with a nifty white plastic holster and lots of caps.

I don't think we'll be able to get our cars in there... The diecast sounds doable tho!

Sounds like a good time to us! We'll most likely be there! Just gotta remind me a bit closer to that time, it's hard to plan anything more than a week in advance lately.

No I meant exactly what I said, but boy it sure looks better on her than me.
http://www.furoutlet.com/item.asp?Pr...N-BOONE-HAT-01

I realize that historically Daniel Boone never really wore a "CoonSkin Cap" but Fess Parker made it famous in his TV series and they were sold all over the place as Daniel Boone caps. In reality he wore a wide-brimmed felt or beaver hat much like the second picture and was born in Exeter township, PA. Remember I grew up in Kentucky, Davy Crockett although born in Tennessee was more of Alamo fame. ie.. Texas (no flaming please, I ain't messin' with Texas)
