Yeungling Brewery?! and other 2008 Cruise Ideas

Leave it to the guy that missed almost every cruise this year after the mecca tour to suggest we brainstorm some ideas for 2008 cruises.

I think of this.. because a friend mentioned that the Yeungling Brewery in Pottsville Pa has opened up the caves in its brewey tour, in honor of its 175 anniversary. (the caves were used to keep beer cold before refrigeration)

Its 2 hours outside of philly... so it could make for a nice cruise. (although the ride home is another story.. )

also... what other ideas do the Philly/Delaware folk have?

Wow...that would be fun!

Just yesterday I was watching the "history" of beer and the Yeungling Brewery was featured. It has been around for a long time and is being run by the 5th generation (or something like that). It would be interesting to go on a tour of it.....and maybe get some free samples

that means it is at least 3 hours for me and longer for Diane, Michelle, Tom, Antonio...Bill Solt, it will take him at least 3 hours...now to PLAN B. Lets go back to Dover Air Force Museum and Casablanca...the Dover people want to give us a day. The Mecca Tour will be in April this year according to Mike

I'd do that again. We checked out the brewery once last year with a fairly large group. It was a pretty neat brewery and the caves were wild. They walk you back thru them and show you all kinds of neat things. We had a really nice ride there also up around Hawk Mountain and such. Edmond put this one together if my memory serves. He'd probably run it again, or post the maps for the run.

Sol-Candy: I was watching the same show! I mentioned the show to a friend today who craft brews, and he is the one that said "Ya gotta do the tour now... cause of the caves being opened".

kwayne: yeah... my record for cruises last 8 months is DISMAL!

marlboromike: Casablanca and AF museum sounds like a winner... can still do a tour some other time of Yeungling. Variety is the spice of life... and beer.

Tyler07: I thought someone ran a cruise up there in 2007!!! Was too good an idea to be mine!

That sounds like a great way to start a road trip for myself! I can go from there to DC, then to Asheville, and Atlanta.....

Count me in for now...

Hey, MM, actually for me the Yuengling Brewery is a shorter drive than to Wilmington, and most definitely shorter than Dover, DE!!!

I think you keep forgetting I live NORTH and WEST in NJ. Think closer to the Poconos than the Shore.

I would definitely do the Yuengling Tour again.

Other ideas:

Winery Tours - I never did get to do the one down in South East PA. There are also a number of wineries around the Lehigh Valley PA area - same general region the Yuengling Brewery is in. We could probably work up a run that would hit a few of these.

I also think there is a big GM Car Show every year around Carlisle, PA which might be fun to check out.

We might be able to do a track day at a local track somewhere. I know that the Miata Club usually does a few of these and opens them up to other car owners. I friend that owns an S2000 has gone to them in the past.

Too far for me. Almost four hours But it does sound like a great idea, so have fun if it comes together. Next time there's something in DE or more southern areas I'll do my best to meet up.

Had some Yeungling for the 1st time last summer on the Gulf Coast and it just became available here last month. This stuff's good enough it may be worth it to drive there from Memphis.

Are you guys thinking going to Yeungling soon? I was putting the idea out there to gauge interest for 2008... Sounds like there is some!
