The Grand Strand Solstice/Sky Club would like to gauge interest in having a 2009 Regional Solstice/Sky meeting in our backyard, the beautiful Grand Strand area encompassing over 40 miles of beaches and attractions galore. We are currently working with the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce on hotel deals.

Myrtle Beach has so much to offer:
  • Yahoo voted our Beach #1 in the country.

  • Recreation & Activites: Miniature Golf, Nascar Speedpark, Water Parks, 2 Oceanfront State Parks, 4 fishing Piers.
  • Restaurants A-Z---100's and100's to choose from. Ditto for watering holes.
If you need more information, contact: Lee Burdette (forum name "Leeburd" at leeburdsc@aol.com) or me, Joe Pickett at
jpickett2@sc.rr.com

If this sounds doable to enough people, we can start planning early. Please let us know your opinion and if you would attend an event on the coast.
Cool! We now have a regional meet for 2008 and 2009! That is awesome.

Count me in

Been to Myrtle Beach, loved it and want to return. Will put it on my calendar when you give me the date. Do you have an idea of what hotel(s)? I know there are several in N. Myrtle Beach that are really nice.

Bntn, we are currently looking at hotels. There is a new resort planned near Barefoot Landing and will be open in our time frame. They were the first to respond to our inquiry thru the Chamber of Commerce. Lee and I plan to meet with them soon. I just need some ballpark numbers of attendees for them.

I have the same information on the two Solstice forums.

Sounds like fun, we love Myrtle Beach. Please keep us posted, too.

Sorry, JohnD, we're on this side of the continent! Having grown up in SoCal, I have to say that there are beaches on the west coast that I like better than Myrtle (voted #1?! hmmmm have the people who voted BEEN to Long Beach, Newport Beach, Catalina Island, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, etc?? Or maybe my youthful memories of those beaches glorifies them more than they deserve). Myrtle Beach is nice, although very commercialized, but it's so great to go to the coast. Myrtle is very developed, but that brings good dining choices, many family attractions, and lots of places to golf for those who like it. . . but the sand just isn't the same as the beaches by the Pacific Ocean (and let's not even talk about Hawaii!).

I haven't been to Florida or the Caribbean, so I don't know about the beaches there. Of course, I doubt I'll ever go on a Sky cruise in either of those places, anyway--FL is too far to drive, and we're certainly not planning to take the Sky to the Caribbean!

Well John, after all we are on the right coast.
I totally understand why you can't make it. Same reason I won't be going to Vegas. Well, I might lose more money that you would here.

Hope you got your Sky back in running order.

Hey LC, It does seem a long way out. But if we don't get it started now, some other club or organization will schedule something. All Lee and I have to do is the planning and live long enough to make it happen.

Hi Guys, I just wanted to say that although we posted this as a regional event, we would love to have all the Skys and Sols owners here. It is open and welcome to anyone who owns or can steal a Kappa for the event.

We are meeting with several resorts next week for scheduling and prices. We really need a good estimate of number of rooms required.

If you think this could fit into your schedule around the end of April 2009, please respond.

Thanks,
Joe

Sounds like a plan

I like your idea of planning this so far in advance.
With this much notice I'm sure my wife and I could get our vacation time organized and make it a week or 10 day trip. Sounds fun.
Let me know what dates you are working on.
