2nd Annual Southern Most Cruise - Key West

OK everyone, this may be a little early, but I figured if I start it now, we can gather more cars and people than we had last year.


Anyone who lives up north, west or elsewhere are all invited.. be a nice vacation away from the snow

Possible dates: Dec 1st, 8th or 15th. (We will do a poll later to settle the date)

Itinterary: (All times to all be announced after a pre-run is done- all hotels, bio stops and meal locatiions will also be announced after the pre-run)

Meet up at the Snapper Creek Turnpike Plaza in Miami.

Depart the plaza and drive via Card Sound Road, to SR 905 South to US1, stopping at Long Key for lunch.

Continue down US1 to Bahia Honda Key State Park for Photo oportunities.

Push on through to Key West stopping somewhere along the way for gas and Bio-breaks.

Somewhere we will do the twisties - probably the same ones we always use. (Not many choices in the Keys)

This should be a fun run. I do plan on gathering all information for hotels, restaurants, etc. There may or may not be a collection taken up for pre-paying meals, T-shirts, catering?, gathering room in the hotel, etc. This will be announced after the pre-run as well.

Prerun will probably be in early November. I also plan an excursion around Sept to gather facts, goodies, and so forth.

Hotel with a banquet room and catered dinner.
T-Shirts
Name tags
Car/fridge magnet badges
Raffle for Pontiac/Solstice prizes
Goodie bags

Trying to keep the registration cost at or below $40.00 per person. The more people we get signed up, the lower the cost will be. This registration will be deadlined one month before the event date in December.

I will create a new thread for people to submit a design logo for the event and shirts, then we will vote on the best one. The selected design will then be used for each annual event.

NOTE: I know the end of July seems early to be setting this up, but if we don't get it going, it won't happen. This should give everyone plenty of time to throw in ideas, plan for the time off, etc.

I have already received two PM's from interested folks... Let's get this rolling!

Thanks for the advance notice on this one.... I am actually booking one my vacations for December in the next week so this is good I can try to work around this if we can come up with a for sure date etc.

No problem! That's why I started early for reasons like yours. I still do not have a hotel lined up. I have emails out to three and I am waiting on responses.

Book several... one for each of the proposed weekends. Ask about the hotel's cancellation policy. Many will allow you to cancel with 2 weeks notice. Some will keep your deposit and apply it to another stay.

It's approximately 7 miles and there are small areas with houses, so we have to be careful near them. The rest is woods and sand. Also we have to watch out for animals, sand on the corners, and various other elements of danger. (Alligators? )

(note:upon re-examination of the GPS data, the fastest turn was taken at 39.7 MPH)
can't commit to the cruise at this time, will know better around oct/nov.
