Canoe Trip July 27th Jefferson NC

Anyone want to cruise to and from a canoe trip? It won't be a group Sky cruise, unless someone wants to plan a point to meet up, but most of us are coming from different directions.

I’m planning a surprise canoe trip to celebrate my hubby's birthday which is on July 24th. On the following Sunday, July 27, we plan to wake him up early and take him to Zaloo's Canoes in Jefferson, NC, “the oldest and friendliest outfitter in the Blue Ridge Mountains.” You’re all invited to join us for a 10 mile canoe trip down the New River, a National Scenic and Wild River. It should be a nice cruise to get there, although we probably won’t bring our Sky because our kids (well, they’re not really kids – Seth’s 22 and Chelsea’s 20) plan to join us. We’ve already made our reservations and plan to get there by 10:30 AM so we can be in the water by 11 AM. Make reservations and join us! The more the merrier. Ken loves to go canoeing and we used to canoe a lot in PA, but we have never gone canoeing in NC, so this will be a big surprise for him (unless he sees this post--we'll see how often he checks the forum).

We’ll canoe for five miles, then stop at the New River State Park for lunch, so pack lunch in a small cooler (and BYOB, of course!). Then we’ll canoe down the next 5 miles. Mandi & Steve went on this trip a couple of weeks ago and said it’s pretty laid-back with only some rocks to navigate through. Ken and I are into relaxing not white water rafting. The last pick-up is at 4 PM, so maybe we can head out to dinner somewhere afterwards, or just head on home.

So, anyone else interested in joining us? I hope he doesn't see this thread, but if he does, oh well. It will give him something to look forward to!

Steve and I are going. (of course) Who else? It was a blast when just the two of us did it a few weeks ago.

Late as usual!

Count me (and Lucas!) in for this-I just made our reservations for a canoe for the 11:00 trip...finally! Sorry to be so late! Can't wait to see everybody again!
