Happy New Year roadster fans! The Jacksonville Roadster Club has planned some very interesting events in the first six months of 2013. Unfortunately, January’s event had to be changed. We planned to visit The Casements (winter home of John D. Rockefeller) in Ormond Beach. On our date, the grounds are reserved for a Native American event. Consequently, the winter home is closed. Go with plan “B”.

January’s Jacksonville Roadster Run is a visit to the Florida Agricultural Museum, 7900 Old Kings Road, Palm Coast, on Saturday, January 26, 2013. The museum was founded in 1983 by agricultural advocates and historians and located in Tallahassee. The purpose is to preserve the agricultural heritage of Florida. In 1997, the museum moved to the current home on 460 acres in Flagler County. A guided tour of “Old Florida” is included in the entrance fee of $9.00 per person. See Cracker cows and horses, vintage farm buildings and equipment and explore early Florida homesteads. Although sanctioned by Florida Statute, the museum receives no State funds to operate. Entrance fees, membership, and philanthropic donations support the museum’s operation.

Following the visit to Florida Agricultural Museum, we will motor a scenic route to Ormond Beach for a late lunch at The Smoke Shack BBQ diner. One of the best BBQ joints I’ve visited and they have the awards to backup their claims of great BBQ.

Hope you will participate in the January event. Hopefully, it will be a “topless” day. However, if the weather is inclement, we will do the scenic ride directly to the BBQ diner. The staging area for this event is the Dairy Queen (DQ) on the northwest corner of I-95 Exit 298 (US 1 and I-95) at 10:30AM at the Flagler County/St. Johns County line. For you GPS folks, the address for the DQ is 10055 US Hwy 1S, St. Augustine. Please reserve January 26th on your calendar and meet us at the DQ for a fun day. You may visit the Florida Agricultural Museum Web Site at Florida Agricultural Museum A popular attraction convenient to St. Augustine and the Daytona Beach area and The Smoke Shack BBQ at www.thesmokeshackbbq.com. Please RSVP Gene and Karen Smith at (386) 931-2700 or E-mail oesmith@earthlink.net by NLT Thursday, January 24, 2013.
