OKEFENOKEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE AND WILDERNESS AREA

STAGING AREA:
Wendy's on New Kings Road. We will leave Wendy's are 10:30
Directions to Wendy's: I-295 North take exit 28B. (US1/23North/Callahan)
Wendy's is on the right , approximately one-half mile.
DRIVE TO FOLKSTON:
The drive is approximately 35 miles on US 1. Straight ride, no turns.
LUNCH: OKEFENOKEE RESTAURANT
1507 North Third Street.
When we arrive in Folkston, we will turn right on Main Street. Parking will be in the courthouse parking lot directly across from the OKEFENOKEE RESTAURANT.
Lunch is buffet. $8.50 and includes beverage. They take Visa. You may also order from the menu.
TRAIN MUSEUM:
After lunch we will visit the TRAIN DEPOT/MUSEUM.
Leaving the OKEFENOKEE RESTAURANT, travel west on Main Street. The museum is on the right just past the railroad track. There is plenty of parking.
OKEFENOKEE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE AND WILDERNESS AREA:
Leaving the TRAIN DEPOT, we will travel west on Main Street, taking a left on the Okefenokee Parkway. It is about 10 miles to the Swamp.
Entrance fee is $5.00 per car.
Hours - close at 7:30PM
Once we arrive at the swamp, you are free to enjoy the area on your own.
The boardwalk is closed due to the fires of the previous summer.

Points of interest are the museum, the 8-mile Swamp Island Drive, nature trails and the Chesser Island Homestead.
Everything is free except for the boat ride. If it is your first time to the Swamp, the interpretive boat tour is worth the fee. The cost is $18.50 per person and is 90 minutes.
