The JAX GM Roadster Club will host a ride to the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park in Cross Creek, lunch at the Yearling and Micanopy, Florida on November 15. Please see the following.
MEET: Hawthorne Square, Hawthorne, Florida North side of US 301, at SR 20 overpass. For those travelling South on 301, there is a cross-over to enter Hawthorne Square.
TIME: 10:00am – Leave at 10:15am
DRIVE: Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park is located in Cross Creek, Florida. Our group will travel briefly west on SR20, turning left on CR325. We should arrive in Cross Creek around 11:00.
COST: The tour of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings home is $3 per person. The historic park provides an authentic experience of early 20th century rural Florida. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings came to Cross Creek in 1928 to find a home and a place to write. She is the author of 13 literary works, including The Yearling and Cross Creek.
LUNCH: The Yearling is located in Cross Creek, Florida. The Yearling was originally opened in 1952. The Yearling was voted one of the Best Restaurants in Florida, Florida Trend Magazine 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. They pride themselves in serving “cracker cuisine.”
OTHER ACTIVITIES: After lunch, we will travel CR 325 north to CR 346. We will cross HWY 441, taking a left and then a right on SE165 Avenue which will lead us directly into Micanopy. Our group will “ride” the main street of Micanopy. Parking is scarce, so take a spot when you find it!
Micanopy is a quaint, Florida town, where you will find antique shops, including old book stores and stain glass shops and a great ice cream shop. Located at the end of town is the Micanopy Historical Society and Archive. It is worth the short walk to browse the museum. There is a requested $2 donation.
This will conclude our group activity. After enjoying Micanopy, you may leave via Interstate 75 which is posted in Micanopy, or return to HWY 441 via SE165.
