Oktoberfest Georgia, 2007

Hey folks, I know it's kinds short notice, but is anyone interested in an informal get-together in the North Georgia mountains this fall?

Helen is pretty much an annual pilgrimage for me during Oktoberfest and I already have a chalet booked for October 12-14. There are lots of restaurants, cabins, motels, chalets, campgrounds and parades and many, many curvy roads.

Read the info below and respond if you think you can make it the 12th - 14th. Perhaps we can arrange to meet up somewhere.

OKTOBERFEST! It's the German word for fun! Well, that may not be the actual translation, but to the folks attending Helen's Oktoberfest every year it may as well be. Oktoberfest in Helen may have started out small in the 70's, but over the years, and through word of mouth, it has grown into the biggest party in the Southeast. And this, is not one of those one-week festivals; this celebration lasts 2 months! The north Georgia mountains make a great vacation spot year-round, because of the unparalleled beauty and mild weather; however, during Oktoberfest Mother Nature kicks it up a notch. Deep azure skies and color splashed mountains surround a picturesque "alpine" village, making the days as inviting as the nights. During the day, you may decide to browse the shops, relax in a beer-garden, or simply enjoy Helen's perfect weather and beautiful scenery. At night, however, all paths lead to Helen's massive Festhalle. Located within walking distance of most hotels, the Festhalle is the spot for authentic German bands, food, beer, and fun. You can either spend the evening dancing the Polka and the chicken dance, or you can relax in the adjacent beer garden and enjoy the crisp night air. Whichever section of the huge Festhalle you like best, be sure to sample the fresh cooked wursts, and large variety of German beers. So, if you've never been to Helen, or just never been to an Oktoberfest, be sure to book your hotel room early and plan to be at Helen's Oktoberfest. I've been to Helen a couple of times and think it's a great little place. Is it too late to get reservations for Octoberfest? If not, I might try to make it.

I just checked and there are several cabins available at the following link:

I have stayed at these cabins in the past and they are new, clean and within a few minutes of downtown Helen.

Sweet. That sounds great. I was in Munich last year for Oktoberfest. But unfortunately I have "work" trip that week to Vegas.

I LOVE HELEN!!! It's a great little town ya'll if you haven't been before it would be a fun filled time for you.... if you can't make it in October then try some other time... it's fun year around!

I was in Munich 4 yrs ago for Oktoberfest! I saw the Oktoberfest and couldn't resist checking out this thread! You all have a great time! Drink some good German bier for me!!

I'd love to go. Helen holds some very good memories for me. The problem is that the date conflicts with the Skyline drive in VA.

That's funny! Well, if I have a free night (and right now I do), we should go celebrate Oktoberfest at the Hofbrau Haus!! That way, we won't miss out...we just won't have our cars!

Man, I'd love to. Used to live about 35 miles south of Helen.

The conflict is Skyline drive in VA the same weekend. I'm already commited to it. Next year, OK?

Yea, I generally don't leave until the afternoon on Sunday so that's a possibility. I'll PM you me car phone number as well. We need another color as the three now are all bluestone.

Was just reminded that is the weekend of the Wings and Wheels Car show in Warner Robins. Already registered for it so I can't miss it. Maybe next time.
