Galena Run - October 2008

To Everyone

Thinking about another run to Galena this year, I have added a poll for the date.

Same basic run as last year except thinking of an optional two group, one group option would be to meet in Rockford on Saturday and run up to Galena and have dinner returning the same day, second group option is to run up to Galena on Saturday, maybe stay in Galena Saturday night and have breakfast and some time to wander around / shop etc. on sunday with a mid-afternoon return run Sunday afternoon.

We had a great time last year, Sami and I stayed the night at the Days Inn in Dubuque (not very expensive), I would highly recommend the motel to everyone, after wondering around downtown Galena Saturday night, we headed over to the Motel, it was only about 15 minutes from Galena. They have a really nice lounge, with a large wood deck, and the tables each have a fire pit built right into the center of the table. We must have spent about 5 hours just kicking back and enjoying the weather, and talking to some Harley riders that made a run like ours to Galena. The deck was only a few steps from the bar.

Sunday we got up early, and headed back to Galena for breakfast and some more sight seeing, I was thinking of the same thing this year, please feel to comment about date, time, route, where to eat, date for the run etc........

The only weekend I could possibly go is the 25th... I will .. health willing.. be going to the Keys the first weekend... and depending on if I stay there or not.. in Florida that is with my son.... I could be back in time for this run.. I would love to go.. we did the backroads on the motorcycle yesterday and it was gorgeous scenery..... SkyBaby

I'd love to do this but it doesn't look like it'll work for me this year, those dates are all booked for me and once you get past Oct the Solstice weather is not as good. Hope everybody that goes has fun!!!

Living up here in Galena, I can assure you that you'd want to avoid the weekend of the 11th. That's "Country Fair" weekend, which usually backs up the entire length of U.S. 20 for multiple miles in both directions.
