Going to Union Grove dragstrip tonight

Hey all! Since it looks like the weather will hold today, Keith & I will be at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI (Great Lakes Dragaway) tonight.

The track opens at 5 pm, and tonight is Ladies night. Anyone interested in hanging out or running their car is welcome to join us; we’ll be in a red Denali and long enclosed white car trailer. We run a '72 Chevelle (purple/black) and our Yellow RL will be there as well.

Great Lakes Dragaway is an NHRA-sanctioned track and operates on NHRA rules. Convertibles are required to have a roll bar if they run faster than 13.5 sec, and a helmet is required if you run faster than 13.99. Cost for running a car is about $40/driver for the day, but I believe that on Ladies night, Ladies are free!

PM or email if you have questions or would like us to watch for you.

Have fun. If you do some runs then be sure to post your slips.

Per NHRA rules, convertibles must have a roll bar once they hit 13.49, and convertible drivers must wear a helmet once they hit 13.99. I think some tracks are even more stringent; but if the track is NHRA sanctioned than I believe they have to go by these standards, at the least.

As you wish! I made 14 passes last night, so here is my first, my best, and the average of all 14 last night...

............Pass 1.......Best........AVG
60'.........2.309........2.166......2.261
330'........6.242........5.993......6.151
1/8 mi....9.475........9.160......9.358
1000'.....12.262......11.908.....12.132
1/4 mi....14.636.....14.251.....14.495
R/T.........0.254......0.006.......0.209

I'm getting turbo lag at the start and sometimes I forget to turn off traction/ESC since it resets everytime the car is re-started.

We had a great time. Ladies got in and raced for free and they had even had a ladies-only trophy race. There were 5 of us for that race and for 4 of us it was our first time bracket racing. I lost in the first round by .09; just couldn’t quite chase down the Ford pickup I was paired with.

Keith got some good runs in with the Chevelle as well. His best time was an 11.0 / 122 mph. Yea, Keith!

My guess is that we’ll be heading back on a Tuesday again. I’ll try to give people more of a head’s up the next time we go. I think it would be awesome to have a nice Sky/Solstice turnout one night.

Nice R/T on your best run!

Looks like you had a pretty good night.

Maybe you should add turn off Traction/ESC to your in cockpit checklist?

Yep, I definitely need a bright pink sticky note with "TURN OFF TC/ESC" on it.

3-4 weeks

I am going to try to get to the drag strip with my Sky in 3-4 weeks or so. When I get my leave dates I'll know more. That would be awesome to get a few Kappas there.

I must correct my wife for a moment. The Chevelle ran a best of 10.93 at 122mph on Tuesday. That extra .07 sec is the difference in having a "10 sec." car and a "11 sec." car.

I'm not sure how to correct her turbo lag and poor 60ft times. Her boost won't build, even doing a brake torque at the line. I see other redlines on this site doing 14.00 and some 13.9's with an automatic. Anyone else have the same issue? Is there an safety built in the stock ECM so it will not build boost at zero road speed?

Regards!

Keith
